Valuable items, but each one has a better alternative if bought separately Apr 01, 2011
By Ali Julia I recently had serious back surgery, and got a similar kit at rehabilitation facility. However, when I got home I was able to buy replacements for each item which worked better for me. The only item I did not use or use were the laces, so I cannot comment on them.
* 1-sock aid; The problem with the sock aid was that it really stretched out all my socks. I have small feet, so my socks are small. Some of them were very hard to get onto this gizmo, and after they were so stretched out that I threw out the socks soon after, as they would slip from my feet while I slept. What I found more useful for dress aid was a very short Unger grabber. I have a set of three Unger grabbers the 12", 26", and 36". Each one has a use depending on what I am trying to reach. The short one is hard to find, but I did find it on Amazon, it was under cleaning supplies of all places.
* 1-26" reacher; This particular reacher does not have ability to pick up small items. It is fine for items like dropped clothing, but not small pieces of paper, sewing needles, pens. I found Unger grabbers have a much better gripping head. Unger 92134 36-Inch Nifty Nabber Pick-Up Tool with Aluminum Handle
* 1-19.5" dressing stick/shoe horn; The shoe horn was very useful, but I prefer the one that does not have the prickly thing on the other side, it seemed to get in my way. Just stand-alone long shoe horn is what I wound up using.
* 1- 22.5" long handle bath sponge; This bath sponge was not a good sponge. I replaced it with the mesh sponge and I felt it got the work done much better.Mesh Bath Sponge 17" On Plastic Handle
I created a list of items I found helpful after surgery as a Listmania list in my profile in hopes someone is similar situation will find it useful and get all/some of those items before the surgery. I wish I did, it would have made me much more comfortable.

Don'thave hip surgery without this Jul 11, 2009

This is a very good basic kit for people going to have a hip resurfaing or a replacement. The grabber could be a bit more robust but it is light weight. The soft rubber tip in that makes it easy to pick up pieces of paper off the floor without scratching the floor and can handle quite a bit of weight. It is useful for a variety of things including assisting you in getting pants pulled on or picking that item up when you dropped it. The shoelaces, well, since I couldn't get mine out, I could not put them in so cannot tell you whether they are useful. I used slip on shoes. I didn't use the zipper assist as in the first 2 weeks I wore pull on and pull up clothing. The bath foam brush was good. The long handled shoe horn is wonderful. It can also be used for batting cat toys around the living room when it is not being used for its original design. The bag does well tied to any walker. You might want to use for picking up the odds and ends you would normally put in your pocket. My sock applicator was frayed when it arrived but still works very well and looks like it could be handwashed. I used it for putting on support hose as my whole leg swelled up post surgery and made a difference getting the swelling down and reduced the bruising. If I were to improve on this, as a nurse I would ask that hip precautions be placed in the mix to remind people to avoid actions that can cause dislocation. This applies for all or any hip surgery and could prevent a complication. I went to a class pre surgery and these items were recommended. I am an indepenedent person and liked the ability to do many of these self care activities as I can. This helped me immensely. It could help you too.

recovery sweet spot Jul 31, 2011
By A. Berger if you are recovering from any leg joint surgery, and need these reaching tools for a Month or two, this kit is a great balance of quality and affordability. after my new hip, I'm using every item in this kit daily, and am confident they will last well beyond my recovery. don't be a sucker and order these items through your hospital, rehab, or surgical supplier - just get this kit instead, and don't let the price fool you.
Great service Mar 15, 2012
By Jeff Great service and fast service, product is the second set I have ordered one for me and the other for an Uncle.
Good with one exception Dec 12, 2011
By JRM All products in the kit were helpful, but the teri lining on the sock-aid became un-stitched after several uses. This probably gets the most use and should have been made more durable.
