Great for headaches and fevers Aug 07, 2009
By sb-lynn I have been buying these headache pads for a long time. Before this, I bought something called "Migraine Ice Pads", but they are no longer around.
Here's how they work - there are two forehead sized pads in each sealed enclosure. There are two enclosures per box. You can reseal any individual enclosure, so you could have 4 different headache pads with each box.
But this is what I do for maximum affect - I take one of the pads and clip off a teeny bit of each corner and put that one on my forehead (otherwise it adheres to my hair which isn't good.) I take the second pad, and cut it in half and place those on my temples (with another tiny cutout to avoid my eyes.) And I lay down and let them help relieve the pain.
If you have a migraine or tension headache, these pads will work for a couple of hours. At least for me, it's not that much more than that, but it's enough time to allow you to rest and/or fall asleep. And they do get cold, really cold, although it takes around 5- 10 minutes. (So don't be disappointed when you first put them on and they are merely cool to the touch.)
I also have autoimmune problems, and often get fevers. These pads are wonderful for that, and they cool and comfort you. The only problem is that with a fever, they really don't stay cold very long at all, but again, they're wonderful while it lasts. What a comfort if you have the flu!
It's true that these are pretty expensive, but all the pads like this are. Do know that they really work, and that when are in the midst of a headache, they are a godsend.
Highly recommended. I've been using them for years. Excellent to use on kids, too.

Works Feb 22, 2009
By lilbearts For migraine sufferers; this stuff really works; may not cure it, but will certainly soothe it and bring it to a much more tolerable level. Better than taking pills :)

This product is a MUST for people with tension headaches Jul 06, 2010
By K. Harkins If your headache is really really severe--then, no, the pain won't completely go away. But it can take the edge off the worst headaches and can even eliminate the pain for more mild headaches.
If you don't refrigerate it, then yes it can take a few minutes for the "cold" sensation to build up (and if you are really hot, or in real pain, or both then you might still not feel it). But if you want it to feel really cold instantly, then refrigerate it. I usually keep a couple of boxes in the refrigerator, and a stack of boxes near the kitchen ready to be popped into the refrigerator.
I have had very frequent tension headaches (many each month) for my entire life. But NONE of the over the counter medications seem to do anything for my headaches. Discovering these migraine pads and also the "HeadOn" headache relief pain sticks (that you can rub onto your forehead) have been a godsend because these are basically the only things (aside from ice packs) that actually do anything for my headaches. I usually use painsticks during the day, especially if I'm at the office or some other environment where I would feel weird sticking a big pad onto my forehead. The painsticks are more discreet. But I use the migraine pads all the time at home, especially when I'm about to go to bed and don't want to have to deal with messy icepacks or other cumbersome solutions. They still feel mildly cool by morning, unless it's especially hot or something.
I agree with the reviewer who cautions against removing a pad too early. Sometimes it may feel like the pain is gone, but then you take the pad off and the pain comes right back within a few minutes.
Just last week I finally got prescribed a pill that my doctor and I are hoping might help prevent my headaches from starting in the first place. But even assuming it will work, it will take a few weeks before the medication builds up enough in my system to benefit me. I'm glad to have these until then. And if I continue to get headaches (though I hope the medication will at least reduce their severity) then I'll be glad to have these on hand.

Cool down fast Jan 05, 2008
By B. Saylor I put these on the back of my neck when the office gets too hot but I'm the only one feeling it. It cools me down right away, and stays attached about 6 hours. Couldn't ask for a better way to cool off without freezing out everyone else.

surprising Jun 20, 2008
By Suzdie I bought this product with skepticism that there was no way it could possibly keep cool for 6+ hours. Yesterday I tried it out for the first time and it did keep cool for 5+ hours, at which time I removed it from my head.
I get headaches where the patch wasn't made to be put, so I use a baseball cap to keep it in place and that works just fine. It feels good to have coolness over the area of my head that radiates pain.
