I purchased this item and used it for the first time. I noticed right away that the filter stays clean for the first couple of cigarettes, i.e. where is the tar going? It is going into your lungs. Period. The only tar that this filter is taking on is residual; it becomes tar-ridden only from its exposure to the tar after many cigarettes have been smoked. I further did a test: I held a tissue between the filter and my lips and inhaled. Result: tar on the tissue. These filters do not work. The only tar they remove is the tar that is going through the chamber and into your lungs. They get "dirty" with tar only after several cigarettes, but do not block the tar from entering your body in any way. Buy them and do the tissue test for yourself if you want. Bottom line is that these filters become dirty with tar only because tar is passing through them. If they were actually blocking the tar they would become dirty with the very first cigarette, and they don't. I think the positive reviews are two fold: wishful thinking and the desire to continue smoking while telling themselves that their cigarettes are no longer hurting their health.

Works as described, takes away some of the tar but none of the taste! Sep 30, 2011

I ordered these from the company about a week ago, and as soon as they arrived I tried one. You will be surprised at how much tar builds up in these things! It's almost disgusting to think that it could have gone into your lungs! Ever since I started smoking my cigarettes with TarGard mini filters it just feels wrong and unhealthy to smoke without them. Great product, and every single "Gard" is manufactured perfectly.
