Description:

HEPA air filters are made from very tiny glass fibers that are made into a tightly woven paper. This creates a filter consisting of a multitude of very small sieves that can capture extremely small particles, including some biological agents. Once trapped, contaminates and particles are not able to flow back into circulation, due to the highly absorbent pores of the HEPA air filter. HEPA air filters are largely considered the most effective type of air filter for solid particles, such as dust and other allergens. HEPA air filters remove 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns in size, almost 300 times smaller than the width of a human hair. HEPA air filters were developed by the Atomic Energy Commission during the second World War. They were originally designed to remove radio active dust from their plants. HEPA air filters are recommended by the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security. HEPA air filters are effective for solid and liquid particles, but not effective for gaseous particles. The XJ-3800 HEPA & ionic air purifier incorporates other technologies that are effective against gaseous particles, such as ionization and activated carbon filtration.

I LOVE my Surround Air but with a huge hairy dog and living in a rural area, the purifier gets a real workout. The purifier tells you when the filter needs to be changed when a light comes on in the front. I was a bit concerned when I ordered the filter because one reviewer said it didn't fit property. Thankfully that was not my experience. The filter was a perfect fit and a GREAT deal. I'm going to keep a spare at all times! Oh - don't forget to reset the filter on the air purifier!!

Part of the reason we went with the Surround Air XJ-3800 Intelli-Pro Air Purifier is because the filters are so much cheaper than many other models (that and the purifier picks up just about everything - pollen, pollution, smoke, dust, allergens, germs...).

This filter is large and heavy duty. The purifier alerted us the filter needed changing (the light went on) after about one year of use. It's super easy to change and only takes a minute. Don't forget to check your manual and reset the "filter light" after you do it.

We also regularly (every two to three months) clean the outside filter (which never needs replacing) by cleaning it off as instructed in the manual and it seems to keep everything working well and the air continuously clean.

The unit this filter is for is amazing. It works better than any other air filter I have used and this element lats a really long time.

The XJ3800 air cleaner is excellent. So the replacement filter is therefore, excellent, too, assuming the XJ3800 air cleaner lasts long enough to require a replacement filter.

Not the same size as the original!!! Feb 21, 2011

We bought the air purifier last year (and loved it), so we were due for a filter change; however, when I changed out the old filter to put in the new one, it's a DIFFERENT SIZE AND DOES NOT FIT!!! The new filter is slightly smaller and slightly thicker, so that the outer filters will no longer fit together. Perhaps there is another purifier that this filter fits, but it does NOT fit the XJ-3800.

We will be returning this immediately and expect Amazon's great customer service to provide a full refund, including shipping, because either it is not the product it claims to be, or Amazon sent us the wrong product.
