Sleeping better AND feeling better! Jan 28, 2012
By Kristen Stemple I love this supplement so much because it not only helps with my insomnia (life-long insomniac here!), but it also has a noticeable affect on my anxiety levels. I've never been diagnosed with any type of anxiety order, although I do feel many of the symptoms and have been known to have panic attacks for no good reason at all. Since I started taking Source Naturals L-Tryptophan 500mg, 120 Capsules and 10 Grams (0.35 Oz) Melatonin 99% Bulk Powder, this has no longer been the case. I sleep through the night, well most nights, and I haven't had anything that even closely resembles a panic attack for close to a over a year.
The Maltonin and L-Tryptophan have been the key reasons for this, and I can't begin to say enough good things about them. I think I've taken every variety of sleeping pill in the past, all of them always giving me groggy feeling in the morning, not so with these supplements what-so-ever I go to bed and drift into a peaceful sleep within 30 minutes and wake up feeling refreshed and ready to face the day with a positive outlook on things (not something I'm usually known for saying!).

Don't touch this Feb 05, 2011
By Midagma Do not touch these, or anything Source Naturals for that matter - I have been very ill for 15 months after taking two Source Naturals L-Tryptophan capsules. I have all the symptoms of EMS, a serious disease caused by contaminated L-Tryptophan. Several more people in the States are also ill after consuming L-Tryptophan. The bottle states that Source Naturals L-Tryptophan is extremely pure and regularly tested - absolute rubbish, the truth is that Source Naturals buy in bulk the cheapest L-Tryptophan from China. Source Naturals were litigated in the 1980s as suppliers of contaminated Tryptophan which caused an outbreak of EMS, they are back again putting into capsules the poorest quality cheapest junk they can get their hands on to make the biggest profits at the potential expense of public health. Do the world a favour and never buy anything with the Source Naturals label on the bottle.

Skeptical of this kind of thing, but wow... Jul 12, 2011
By H. Chase
"Woman of Leisure"
TL;DR Version:
I'm incredibly skeptical of alternative medicine, but it works.
Long Version:
I've been wrestling with severe PTSD for years, including depression, anxiety problems, and sleep disorders. But getting treated for PTSD is difficult and I hate the side-effects of psychiatric Rx's. Still, I've bordered on major mood problems that made me desperate for something. I was willing to check myself into an institution, except my insurance provider wouldn't cover enough of the expense.
Now let me say right up front that I am a skeptic. I don't put much stock in alternative medicine, as a rule. Yeah, okay, Valerian works, opioids and certain other "herbs", but most of the effective ones are Schedule-narcs, making it irrelevant for the don't-want-to-go-to-jail type of person. But I did my research and found some medical literature supporting the use of L-Tryptophan for my symptoms, so I thought I'd give it a try. But I wasn't hoping for anything. In fact, I explicitly expected this NOT to work.
Wow, I was wrong. This works so wonderfully that I wonder when the big pharma co's are going to catch on and forced the FDA to take this off the OTC market.
Regimine:
Three capsules (500mg) first thing in the morning on an empty stomach (this is important) Two capsules mid-day an hour before lunch. Two capsules an hour before dinner. I also take melatonin supplements before bed. This helps, but don't overdo it or it can be counter-productive.
Effect:
It is very subtle at first. It took me a couple of weeks before I realized that I was actually feeling fine for a change. That might not sound like a big deal, but if you're suffering with PTSD, trust me: feeling "fine" is a joy. I am able to deal with life without getting freaked out and spiraling down the rabbit hole. Things just don't upset me the way they used to. I can handle the regular life "stuff"; everything doesn't become Instant Crisis Freakout. In fact, it's rather hard for me to get upset about anything. If that sounds like heaven to you, then this is the supplement you want.
When I came to my PMS week, I was worried I'd find out that I was just imagining the effect, but nope -- I made it through that week with only a slight mood swing. Nothing serious.
I ran out about a month ago and didn't bother to re-up because one of the features of my PTSD that this does nothing for is the procrastination (note that; this won't fix everything). It was a week or so, and I started noticing my stress returning. In another week, it was bad again, so I bought a new bottle. It's been a week, and I'm feeling good again.
People seem to take this for a lot of reasons, and I can't speak to any other than anxiety and depression. It did not do anything for my insomnia directly. It was more of an indirect effect of making me chill enough that I wasn't going to sleep rigid with worry. Still, it doesn't put me out or anything. For that, I use the melatonin.
Note: If you're trying to make up your mind whether to take this or 5-HTP, go with this. It's the precursor for the stuff in 5-HTP, and works a lot better. You might try combining this with Emergen-C (not just regular Vitamin C capsules) and a B-6 liquid supplement for even better effects. I noticed a difference with those, but YMMV.
All in all, I'm very happy with this.

These are CAPSULES not TABLETS Jan 04, 2010
By Donna Warnock The illustration for this product shows a bottle of tablets though it is, in fact, capsules. The capsules are MUCH bigger than the tablets, which are somewhat more expensive. Both are highly effective sleep aids and I have found Source Naturals to be the most effective brand.

High on life, thanks to Source Naturals L-Tryptophan Feb 20, 2011
By M. Schmidt
"That Guy"
I had been taking 5htp supplements for suspected low serotonin levels. The 5-htp didn't seem to have much effect beyond what could be considered placebo. So I switched to a prescription L-Tryptophan- 1000mg on an empty stomach before bed. This had a definite effect and I was happy.
While browsing Amazon one day, I came across Source Naturals L-Tryptophan and noticed how well reviewed it is. I purchased a bottle and switched to Source Naturals 1.5g a night (per the bottle's suggested dose), the day it came in. That night I had some of the most restful sleep I have ever had. I also had some amazing dreams.
The day after first switching over to this product, colours were brighter, food tasted better, I was happier and breathing more deeply. This product has made a significant positive impact on my life! I will continue to keep taking Source Naturals L-Tryptophan because it has proven to be much better than any other products I have tried!
