This is a really fun product...everyone raves. Until it quits working properly. The shaft that drives the grinder fits into a plastic cog. With use the plastic wears out and the shaft can't grip and the ginder motor runs, no grinding occurs. The light is fun too. This has been the most fun and most annoying grinder I have ever owned. I have terrible arthris but I am going back to a manual vs. spending another $25. If you like the battery powered, and don't mind replacing the set every year then go for it.

I bought these to grind two types of pepper. I'm using standard black peppercorn and white peppercorn. So little pepper comes out that you'd have to sit there 5 minutes to get just a small pinch. I would recommend trying a different brand. ****EDIT**** I played around with the coarseness dial on the bottom of the grinder, and now the pepper comes out just fine.

we really enjoy these. they are fun to use, the grinding is quiet, the light bright enough to see what you're doing and see how much you're putting on the food items. the clear area is the area that stores the sea salt or whole peppercorns, so much of the device behind the metal is mechanical. it seems like a great luxury to use these.

We are fed up with these.
The pepper grinder is slow, really really slow, and it has fresh batteries in it. And, it won't grind it thick.
Every time the salt shaker is used, when you set it down on the table it spills out big chunks of salt that has to be cleaned up.
We're trashing these, and just going with the coarse ground black pepper, and regular salt. Takes up less room, cheap, and not messy.

I have owned these for quite some time and love them. They are easy to use and you can see exactly how much pepper or salt you're putting on your food (because of the light). Everyone that comes to our house and uses them once wants a set so it makes a terrific, reasonable gift.
