By R. Sexton I did quite a bit of research before I bought this item. My in-laws have a similar item (that I think was made by Life Fitness). All the other options I found were either too expensive or too flimsy. I think this one is basically the best of both worlds. In fact, it might even be a clone of the Life Fitness model that I used to use.
Additionally, there is reasonably good customer service here. Initially I was sent a simple Roman chair (no back extension). Once I raised the problem, I got the right one delivered two days later with a return slip.
Very happy with the purchase.
Works well for back decompression also May 11, 2011
By L. Shulthise I bought this a couple years ago to do back extensions but quickly found that it was more effective at bringing me relief than my inversion table. The trick is to lay on it and do an inverted crunch. While hanging from my hips, I just press my forehead against the vertical post as hard as I can for about 15 seconds. Flexing the abs causes the back muscles to relax. Then, I just hang there inverted for about 30 seconds in blissful relaxation. I can feel the lumbar separation and the relief is wonderful. I then repeat the process a few times. Its a quick and easy way to loosen my back after a long ride or hike.
It feels good enough that I keep using it without forcing myself to do so. I'm drawn to it. I found that I would only use the inversion table when my back was really out of whack as a last ditch measure. I use this equipment regularly as preventative maintenance because it brings instant relief and its easy to use. I think having the hips bent allows the back to relax and stretch more than with an inversion table too. Don't forget the crunch before hanging because that's what really allows the back to relax more.
I'm 6'1" tall and it would be nice if the verticals were 3" taller so my head wasn't close to the legs when I'm hanging but even as it is it works wonderfully. I have a friend who is a fabricator. I'll probably have him weld in some extensions for me.
