My Personal Favorite Floss Apr 07, 2007

As a dentist of over 20+ years experience, I have seen over and over again the results of not flossing one's teeth. The unfortunate result of such neglect is cavities (especially in kids), and inevitable gum disease in adults, which in both cass over time leads to tooth loss. Gum disease almost always starts in-between the teeth and the only way to clean the germs that cause gum disease and cavities from between the teeth is with floss. Mechanical scrubbing with floss is the key, and all the daily brushings and rinsings will not remove the in-between stubborn plaque below the gumline. The bottom line is that we need to floss our teeth if we want to keep them for a lifetime.
Reach floss is thicker than the average floss. It will be more difficult to pass between teeth, but I like it because I find that it cleans my teeth better than the smaller diameter floss. This is a personal preference not based on any clinical data. Reach floss is not for everyone. Those with tight contacts will have trouble with Reach floss.
I have heard all the excuses for not flossing: The floss is too hard to handle, my fingers turn blue, my fingers are too fat, I'm too clumsy, the floss hurts my gums, etc, etc. Therefore, I recommend the "Flossaide Dental Floss Holder", for those that have trouble flossing manually.
One still has to develop the habit of flossing daily. Floss daily, and start saving your teeth!

The only floss that works on my teeth . . . Aug 03, 2009

This is the ONLY floss I can use on my teeth without shredding, breaking, or getting fibers stuck in between. I have very tight spaces, especially around the back molars, and this stuff works. Everything else, even Glide or good imitations of this product, can't do the job. I'll always use it!

GOOD PRODUCT Mar 11, 2009

I always get top marks from my dentist on my hygiene, and I think using a good floss is key. Now that Costco only stocks Glide, I had to find a source for something that didn't break, and actually had at least a little abrasive quality to it. Reach DentoTAPE Waxed Ribbon Dental Floss fills the bill. I think I might have preferred even a wider dental tape if it were available. The larger container is also something I appreciate. With something like the small Glide containers, there is a lot of container wasted with a relatively small amount of floss, and with the breakage I experienced, that didn't go far.

Great for wide spaces between teeth! Feb 24, 2007

I agree with the previous reviewer that this floss is very thick and not good for "normal" spaces between teeth. However, it is exactly what I have been looking for, for months - a very thick floss for large spaces.
I started the Invisalign system and my ortho needed to "make more room" for my teeth to move by filing between my teeth (so-called "interproximal reduction" or IPR). This caused very large spaces between my teeth, in which food gets caught all the time. I have tried probably 6 or 7 brands of dental floss, all of which did nothing - it was like not even flossing (I was looking for floss at Target and similar stores - they did not carry Dentotape). I even tried that "spongy" kind of floss that is supposed to expand, but that did not work. I was on the verge of buying a Waterpik (but that cannot be used at work and on-the-go).
This Dentotape WORKS to clean large spaces between teeth. It is made of standard (old-fashioned) type of cotton-like material coated with a light layer of wax (not the Teflon glide-type). I agree that it does hurt to floss between some of my tight connections (but also it got more gunk out of those areas than expected).
The package says "Designed especially for cleaning wide spaces between teeth" and I give the product 5 stars since it does what it was designed to do and it makes my life easier. I'm sure as my teeth move closer together and the spaces are reduced that this product will no longer be the right floss for me. But it is great for people with large spaces - there are countless "regular" flosses out there for the rest of the population.

terrific because of my tightly spaced teeth - gives superior strength, grip & leverage Sep 27, 2007

"all for superb products"
I find this product works extra great for me because I have tightly spaced teeth. The thicker tape gives it extra strength, making it easier to pull through my teeth vs. all other floss breaking off too easily or not providing the same degree of grip and leverage. Thus, ever since I found this product 20 years ago, I can't stand using anything else and always end up giving away the free dental floss products my dentist hands out because their not working as well makes them not worth it despite being free.
