I have tried other types of wraps for my back. The microwave types are OK but I've had the experience of my microwave overheating them a bit, causing the cloth covering to melt in spots. And they only stay hot for a period of time. What I like about the Q-fiber is it stays hot - though it does kick off after a period of time, you can simply restart the cycle. There's no concern of overheating as with the microwave. There is also the option of using a 12 volt plug in your car or on one of those car chargers (if your power is out or if you're camping). It has a battery pack for four AA batteries though I haven't tried it yet. The instructions say the heat will lessen as the batteries wear out. The batteries are the only way to walk around with it on, otherwise you have the cord. That's the only disadvantage I can see. If you need to get up for something, you can just unfasten the velcro. It's easy on, easy off. Maybe the biggest disadvantage to this heat belt is my partner likes it so I may have trouble getting to use it at times! A great product and I did find it at overstock for 58.

The heat from this feels so relaxing. It doesn't get nearly as hot as a standard heating pad and feels so much better. I will never use a standard heating pad again.

I have used all types of heating pads - gel types, moist heat, long acting disposable ones etc. While others provide relief while I am using them, this is the first pad that provides me with longer lasting relief. I originally purchase it to treat persistent lower back pain which is so much improved. Now whenever I feel the start of discomfort, I use the pad on and off in the evening until it feels better. I no longer need to wear or use a heating pad in bed. The pad comes with extra Velcro wrap pieces so you can easily and quickly position the heating pad using it anywhere from your upper back to your hips. It can also be adjusted to use on legs or upper arms. The actual heating element may not be large enough to cover your whole back from side to side but this pad doesn't need to be used as long as conventional pads (in point of fact it shuts off after a prescribed time). So I just reposition and restart it and have no problem treating my whole back in one evening.
Now that my lower back problems are under control, I am using this pad to treat my neck problems. The only problem that I have with this pad in this regard is that it is not shaped so that it can be comfortably wrapped around my neck. Instead I have to position it on a pillow and sit back against it. If they made a Q fiber neck wrap I would definitely buy one.

Pros: I bought this belt for use during the winter by my 12 year old dog (German shepherd) who has arthritis on her lower spine. Based on her behavior, I would say it works quite well. She was able to move more easily i.e. less stifly after its use so it helped us keep her medication on the low side (it affects the liver so the fewer pills she gets the better). I used it a few times on my arthritic knee and it relieved the pain also. I don't know if it is truly putting out infrared light, maybe it just produces heat but it does work.
Cons: an essential part of the belt, the battery case, easily breaks and it is non-replaceable.
Explanation: the battery case is plastic; it has a plastic clip to attach the battery case to the belt. The clip broke within a couple of months of use. Then the small clips that hold the plastic cover over the batteries also broke (batteries are exposed and fall off without the cover). The switch that toggles ON-OFF also broke so the device was ON all the time unless the batteries were removed when not in use (this was very annoying because my dog was using the belt after each walk outside in the winter). I had to rig the switch with a piece of wood and duct tape and buy a small holder with a clip that holds the broken down battery case so that I can attach it to the belt. I would like to buy a replacement for the battery case but does not seem to be available anywhere.
UPDATE 8/2011: The QFiber website has now added a Contact Us link. I was able to email and ask for a replacement for the battery pack case. In reply, the QFiber rep asked for my address and promptly sent me 2 free battery cases ($6 each) as warranty replacements. I noticed that in the rep's email and in the packing slip, the main website is brighteyeinnovations.com and the contact email is info@brighteyeinnovations.com. So if contacting via QFiber.com fails, try this other website and email address.
Because I was able to get replacements courteously and promptly, I'm upgrading the product by one star and dropping the old title "Works but poorly made".

So far, this has been a great product. It is awkward for elbow arm or wrist (however they make a smaller one for that)but works well for the knee and back. I use it mostly on my knees, actually bought a second one so that I could do both knees at a time. It nay be the placebo effect but my knees seem to be responding. The expansion straps allow for placement on most parts of the body. There is a timer and temperature controller (kind of cool) for use when plugged into the outlet adapter but not when using the battery holder. If using rechargeable batteries, be sure they are high capacity or they will drain in about 5-10 minutes.
On the negative side:
The velcro does not seem to be placed properly and can dig into the skin.
The battery holder is a bit flimsy seems prone to breakage.
The description (what's included) was a bit vague but the package does include the unit, expansion straps (2), and adapter for home and automobile (1 each) and extension cord which container the on-off switch and temperature controller. The heating unit is removable so that the outer shell can be washed. The first on that I ordered (from a different supplier) was apparently used and missing most of the parts.
I have used and continue to use these wraps on a regular basis with no problem.
