Better than prescription medications Nov 08, 2011
By Thomas N. Sibrizzi After some research I decided to go on 5-HTP in order to come off my Lexapro (SSRI) Previous to the 5-HTP, I was feeling the full effects of anti-depressant withdrawal. I felt anxious, angsty, depressed, and just terrible overall. Once the bottle arrived, I immediately started taking 300mg a night before bed. Even the first couple of days on 300mg of 5-HTP were amazing, almost instant results. I felt unusually happy and my anxiety/angst were greatly reduced. After about two weeks of taking 300mg a night, I noticed I was starting to have an increased number of slight manic episodes. I lowered my dosage to 200mg and still felt the positive effects. A few weeks later I was running out and lowered myself down to 100mg. At this dosage the effect wasn't as strong, but definitely still noticeable. When I finally ran out and stopped taking it, I had a lasting few weeks of feeling good with my Serotonin which eventually ended. I saved a couple capsules for later use and took them at the end of days I was feeling bad in preparation for the next day. If I was feeling bad and took 100-200mg of 5-HTP, my next day was almost guaranteed to be better. It gives you those days where you wake up and appreciate the sun shining through your window and birds outside. I recommend 5-HTP to everyone I know.
Side Note: Says it may cause drowsiness, but even at 300mg I haven't experienced any sleep-aid effects other than the long term benefit of feeling less stress at the end of the day.

Cheap but bad taste Jan 26, 2012
By J. Drips I've taken a bunch of different brands of HTP. Most of them taste mildly earthy and plant-like. This one tastes chemically and gross. You would think that you wouldn't need to worry about the taste of a pill but I guess it's technically the smell that's bad because all you can truly taste is the capsule coating. That being said, the pennies you save by buying primaforce htp is only worth it if you don't value your personal experience. Splurge a few pennies so you don't take a hundred crappy-tasting pills. For the record, I finished the bottle, but I will never buy this brand again.

I'm so grateful for 5-HTP!! Oct 02, 2011
By BusyMomma I was taking antidepressants for most of my life for anxiety and depression but had to come off of them when I had a severe allergic reaction. I was introduced to 5-HTP when my symptoms started up again with stress in life and have found that 5-HTP helps more (with no side-effects) than any other medication! I'm so grateful for the natural option to raise my serotonin. My anxiety and depression are under control and I'm sleeping well again. I'm not sure that the brand matters but this is the cheapest that I have found it even in local stores and it gets shipped right to me for free with my prime membership.

good price, short shelf life for my order Jan 17, 2010
By shopper in pa i ordered this through amazons subscribe and save program. the price was fair and as an added bonus, the pills are actually the vegetarian version, which is always good (and hard to find for many pills). the label shown does not indicate that, but that's what i received. however, the pills i received expire in 7/10. that's not a very long shelf life considering the bottle this order is replacing had an expiration date in 2012. i canceled my subscribe and save subscription due to this.

It's 5-HTP and it's priced better than other brands. Thumbs up in my book! Jul 28, 2011
By CorpsePenis As the title reads, it's a standard 5-HTP supplement and is priced better than others of similar mg and capsule count. I was using the Source Naturals brand of this (same 120ct 100mg capsules), but it was getting pricey and I could not afford to keep buying it. So I decided to try this PrimaForce brand. Well, the capsules look almost identical as the Source Naturals ones. This particular one however are 'vegetarian capsules', which does not matter to me, but it may to vegetarians. They also label that it is tested to be free of "PEAK X", which is a good thing. As long as the price stays lower than other competing products, I see no reason to not continue to use this brand. Someone else mentioned a short shelf life on their bottle... Mine says it expires 09/2012, which is plenty long for a 120 count of capsules considering I use at least one every night as a sleeping aid and for depression.
As far as 5-HTP goes in general, I find that it does help make my mind relax and fall asleep a little easier. It doesn't really make me tired, just relax my mind a little - keep me more focused on one thing rather than going all over the place (almost like an ADD). Typically I lay in bed with my mind wondering like crazy making it impossible to fall asleep for hours on end. During the day, it also helps prevent depression too; much in the same way it does help sleep, it basically keeps my mind from wondering. The only downside, is I find myself forgetting things a little more often, like bill due-dates and such, but that is nothing a calendar can't help me with. It's surely better than being depressed all day and then not being able to sleep at night. If you suffer from either of these problems, I recommend you give it a shot. Some people experience side-effects like headaches and stomach problems, but I'm lucky enough to get those things all the time anyway so it doesn't seem to be any different while taking 5-HTP. If anything, getting better quality sleep helps prevent me from getting stomach problems and migraines.
I have no experience with this as use for appetite suppression, but I do understand that some people use it for that. In fact, the bottle lists it right on the front. Since I usually take this at night before going to sleep, I'm generally not eating around that time to see if it has any effect on my appetite.
