If you are on the fence about buying this item, just buy it already! I've never had kava before, never less I jumped straight to the lb bag. I've done tons of reading on the stuff so I was expecting a mud taste. When I first got it I put some straight into a bottle of water, shook for a while and drank, no straining, and yep it tasted like mud, in a good way. Well that kind of desensitized me to the taste. Ever since I have been using a can of coconut juice, 1 table spoon of coconut milk and some warm water to make it, along with straining it. This method taste so much better! The kava causes some numbing in your mouth and throat similar to some not so leagal substances, you may also notice a slight ringing in your ears not in an annoying way though. Kava is very good and very differant. If you know anyone on a alcohol monitoring system you should recommend this to them. Also the more frequent your useage, the more intense the affect, or just use less and your supply will last longer. And you may know this already, but you can get a DUI on kava, you'll pass the breathalizer though! Make sure to get the proper straining bag with your kava, coffee filters and teabags don't work! Get kava and get happy! And tell all of your friends to get some before the FDA starts putting regulations on this stuff!

The taste is normal of Kava. It's not as strong as kava I've had before. The numbing is instant on your tongue when you drink it! It takes a lot to get the full body relaxant. A relaxed feeling, not a drunk feeling with a hangover in the morning. No DUI's on Kava.

Truly the only Kava product that I have used that actually has some kind of affect. You really want an all root product like this. the reports of liver damage - in Europe - seem to be associated with capsule product that included bark, stems and leaves.
Also - I have been booze sober for over two years now - But I have read a great deal that suggests booze and kava do not play well together. Seeing that they are both processed thorough the liver this would make very good sense. A night of drinking is not a good night to "give kava a shot."
Start with just a couple large tablespoons the first time. See how you like that. Too much the first time can make you feel sick to your stomach. That isn't related to this product specifically - just kava in general. Forgo the capsules and such if you are looking for something that will have an immediate relaxing affect. Do t the way the islanders do it - make a proper drink from it. I have found the capsules to be a waste of time. Indeed - I have several bottles in my kitchen that have gone unused.
I have been buying this same product from this same company for over a year now and have never been disappointed.
Note - this will work as a mild to strong intoxicant depending on how much you take. You should treat this product just like any physical and mind altering substance (booze, pot, prescription drugs, Nyquil) and NOT DRIVE. Enjoy this in the comfort and safety of your own home.
I have read some say that there is no chance for a hangover. Not true. If you are feeling headachy or shaky the next day you have taken too much. I have been there. Adjust your dosage. Like anything - treat this with respect and you will come to join the many white folks like I who have come to enjoy this product.
Be sure and get yourself the kava strainer bag. DO NOT HEAT the product like a tea. Heat will break down the kavalactones in the product. You will be making a room temperature beverage - that will taste like mud.

I brewed this into a (room temperature) tea using a 1.5 tbsp powder to 1 cup water ratio and the result was generally relaxing or soothing full-body feeling. If held for more than a couple seconds in the mouth you will get a numb tongue - very interesting. I did not find the taste (before additives) to be foul in any way, but it was certainly earthly.
To prepare just blend for 4-5 minutes and strain through a new stocking sock or kava bag; kneed all the water out of the sock/bag and enjoy. The effects are similar in potency to a two-shot espresso drink.
The numb-tongue subsides rather quickly and the relaxing feeling lasts an hour or two at most - however after and hour or two without 'bad' thoughts I feel refreshed and my outlook has been improved.

I wonder which is better, bag or metal coffee filter? I don't know. But I just found the filter and put it to work. A couple spoonfuls in with some room-temp/luke-warm water over top. At first very dark looking muddy water coming through. Then less and less until I was ready to dump it in the sink and take the harvested kava kava tea. I made a few cups, after drinking the first, the throat is numb and then a little while later the body follows. I am relaxed and there is less pain. But I am surprised!!!! I take kratom as well to sleep and this stuff took away the nausea and it increased the CLARITY, GREATLY!!!
My mind is relaxed and I feel very at ease, even more so than the kratom which is more so physiological and pain relieving. It provides a calm ability to focus, but nothing like this. I'm sure I will be able to sleep later. It's truly amazing. Thanks.
