Simple but accurate; technique matters Jun 28, 2009
By L. Chan I am a clinical pharmacist and I bought this primarily to show my patients how to check their blood pressure (BP) at home. I have seen quite a few BP machines my patients use and I usually check the machine readings against my own which is done manually. The HEM-712C is one that is inexpensive but gives accurate readings. Do keep in mind that the literature suggests that most machines made after 2000 should be accurate and technique matters more:
1) Know how to use your machine. Read the manual.
2) Sit down for a least 5 minutes before checking your BP
3) Do not talk while checking BP. The sensor can pick up the vibration
4) When you are have a full stomach or need to go to the restroom, readings are not accurate
5) Do not wear tight clothing or cross your legs when checking BP
(Note: wrist and finger BP machine are generally not as accurate)

Accurate, batteries last a long time Jul 01, 2005
By Martha W. Bonney

This cuff is easy to use, the readings appear to be accurate (they jibe with readings in the doctor's office), and the batteries are lasting longer than I expected. Inflation is somewhat noisy, so you may want to close your office door if you're measuring your BP at work. Cuffs are transferable between OMRON products; the large cuff from my manual bp monitor works just fine on this battery-powered monitor. Also, somewhat to my surprise, the action of manually inflating the cuff does not seem to affect readings; the numbers are similar between both monitors. The cuff automatically inflates to 170 mmHG; if it senses that it needs to go higher, it will continue to inflate to 210 mmHG, and you can force it to go even higher if your systolic pressure is really high. No frills, except for a memory bank that retains 14 readings (blood pressure, pulse). Highly recommended.

Doctor recommended Jan 05, 2007
By D. Grieco My doctor recommended I purchase this product and was asked to bring it in to establish its accuracy. He tested it and it passed with flying colors! It was extremely accurate when compared to his office blood pressure unit. I highly recommend this product.

Does the Job; Memory Function a plus Dec 04, 2009
By PRM Once you get the knack of properly placing the cuff (I had the help of my father-in-law, a physician), this product provides fast blood pressure and pulse readings. The memory function is particularly useful for keeping track of blood pressure and pulse. I would rate it higher if not for the fact that machine is very sensitive to placement of cuff - a 1/4 inch to the left or right can produce significant differences in readings.

Using a home blood pressure monitor Jan 15, 2007
By William E. Knebel

I have used the Omron HEM-712C Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor for over a month. At first the readings were so inconsistant I thought the unit was faulty. After about a week of use the range of readings got smaller. I belive that having a consistant position of your body and arm plus an accurate positioning of the cuff leads to more consistant results.
