2Expensive and gimmicky.  Feb 07, 2009
By J. Blair
First off, I have shoulder length fine and color treated hair, so of course my observations will be somewhat different than those with very short hair. I used #7 for my fine hair because it provides more moisturizers than the system intended for "fine hair."

1. The shampoo.
This product was ok, but didn't lather all that well and because of this, you have to use a fair amount to get your scalp and hair clean. I ran out of the shampoo before I used half of the conditioner. (I use both daily). I need about double the amount I would normally use of any other shampoo brand/type. It is quite runny -- they could stand to concentrate it down to the normal shampoo consistency since they're charging quite a lot per ounce for watery contents.

2. The conditioner:
I guess if your hair is short or in very good virgin condition, the lightweight conditioners in this product will be sufficient. However, even for fine color treated hair it was too lightweight, and it is designed for color treated medium/coarse hair which is going to start out more dry. I didn't use the whole bottle since it left my hair very tangly compared to almost any drugstore conditioner. I understand that this conditioner is meant to be free of chemicals that can make hairloss worse, but if it does not function well as a conditioner, it fails in its primary purpose.

3. The scalp therapy liquid.
This stuff is very runny/watery, so you have to be careful not to let it drip onto your face, neck, or any other skin or it will leave red patches for a while. It's intended to bring blood to the surface of the skin/scalp -- which it does. However, this means it will do the same thing to any skin it comes in contact with. It left the roots of my hair feeling a bit gritty.

Overall effect: Nothing. After using the products for 45 days, my hair felt worse, the regrowth was no faster and seemed no healthier than before (virgin vs. old growth colored hair is easy to measure), and the system is far more expensive per ounce than products from the drugstore that work even better.

It works on the premise that you are not using any styling products or leave-in conditioners that will add back all those "bad" chemicals -- so it needs to be a REALLY good system to make up for it. It's simply not.

Another point -- if your hair is naturally fine and not falling out/thinning, NONE of the nioxin products will help you grow thicker hair, despite claims of hairdressers to the contrary.

5nioxin system 7  Oct 14, 2010

Great product. Glad I took my hair stylist's advice. Hair feels full and thinning seems less noticeable. Smells great. I will continue to use it.

2Didn't work but I only used the starter kit  Jan 18, 2012
By HCPE
I bought the starter kit and tried it. I can't say it did anything for me. But I also have to say that I didn't continue the using the products after I used up the starter kit. I'm not sure how long you're supposed to use it before you see any benefits, but I didn't see any in the time frame that the starter kit lasted.

4Hair Care Works  Jul 22, 2011
By Ray Fong
The system does a pretty good job at what it claims. It is reasonably priced and if you need help beyond your "regular" hair care systems, Nioxin will provide it. If possible, it ought to get 4 and a half stars, but it's not available.

4Good item to start with  Oct 10, 2008
By D. R. Gendreau
If you are not sure about this product then this starter set is a good item to start with. I will be totally honest I am not sure if it works on me as of yet. I have tried this product for almost a month and can't tell a difference. I also use Propecia (pill) and Rogain (topical) so that might hamper the results. I know for a fact either the pill OR topical work wonders for me, together they work about 25% more effectively.

I feel my head tingle when I use it, but really can't see a difference. My local Costco has the Shampoo in a much larger bottle for less than $30 (for non color treated hair) I plan on buying that next and see what happens.

Many others here have sworn they see results and honestly I believe them, you can tell when hair loss stops or is reduced. When I started using rogain and later started propecia I noticed going from a hand full of hair from gentle washing to almost nothing falling out.

My intention is to continue to use this product, I figure if I get 10 more % hair saved it is worth a few pennies a wash to do it (FYI, Propecia costs me more than 2 dollars a day, rogain is cheaper but not by much, I can't use generic rogain it makes my head itch)
