Accruate large cuff blood pressure monitor Dec 20, 2007
By Peter Singh I bought this product after a good amount of research among leading manufacturers of home blood pressure monitors including Omron and Microlife. I also currently own an Omrom and wasn't particularly impressed with the accuracy of the readings.
The BHS (British Hypertensive Society) publishes ratings and I carefully evaluated the ones that received the highest A/A rating as well as some of the newer offerings from these manufacturers that hadn't as yet been rated.
I went with this product primarily because it seems to be the only one with the extra large cuff (also offers a regular cuff option UA-280) and seemed accurate. After having had it for some time now I couldn't be more pleased. Readings are quick, machine is quiet and most important very consistent and accurate.
Highly recommend this monitor.

Accurate, Quick, and Simple Jul 31, 2008
By midnight821 The LifeSource UA-789 Blood Pressure Monitor was purchased to replace an aging household monitor. However, I did use both just to compare the readings. Both had very similar readings and since my previous monitor was always well trusted I would consider the UA-789 to be accurate. A couple of household members also compared the readings before or after doctor checkups. Again, the UA-789 performed very well and had comparable readings to the doctor offices.
This particular model is one of the few that come with an extra large cuff. The extra large cuff comes in handy, but since this particular monitor was going to be used by several people I also purchased the LifeSource UA-281 Blood Pressure Monitor Cuff, Large (14.2" - 17.7"). Interchanging the large and extra large cuff is quick and simple. No hassles at all.
The unit is fairly quiet, although not the quietest on the market. It tends to be very quick, but there are times where it takes a little extra time to get a reading (this could be user error in the fitting of the cuff to the arm). The numbers on the screen are large and it also shows a graph (with a red, yellow, and green area) that indicates where the blood pressure is high or low.
You have the option of using the included power cord or batteries with this unit. I tend to just use the power cord and it works like a charm. Overall, this was a great purchase and recommended to anyone.
UPDATE 1/2/2010: Over a year later and the LifeSource UA-789 is still performing above and beyond. Readings have been very accurate compared to visits to the doctor office (a little time difference of course from the office to heading home and using the UA-789, but the readings are very close). The monitor still performs like it is new with fairly quiet operation. This was a very wise purchase and will remain in the household for much longer. Still a recommended purchase!

Largest cuff on an automatic monitor Dec 08, 2007
By Product Purchaser I bought this product because it was the only automatic monitor with a cuff this big that I could find. It works well.

Xtra large cuff Nov 12, 2008
By C. Sopko You may want to think twice about ordering the unit with the extra large cuff. I'm 6"3" 300lbs + This cuff is way to big for my arm. It actually fits my upper thigh! The unit works fine, I ordered the medium cuff for the rest of the normal size family members, works for me also but right at the end of the size. Should have ordered the large cuff for myself would have been plenty big enough. Can't imagine that cuff fitting to many people, just my opinion.

Needed an extra large cuff with a BP monitor Dec 17, 2008
By Richard Teevan Need to get a BP monitor and as a weightlifter I have the same issues with IPOD bands..they are too small. the importance of proper band size became apparent to me after an internet search on home BP monitoring.
the # 1 BP monitor has no extra large bands (in the consumer product--go professional and pay over 900$$$ for it--yah right!), this led me to this brand (Lifesource)and I am very happy with the functionality the ability to have different size bands and works as advertised!
