 Easy to Take; Does Seem More Bio-Available Than Other Forms Dec 15, 2011

First, let me say that I'm a supplement veteran who carefully researches before venturing into taking ANY new supplements. I also know my brands, and Jarrow is one of the most trusted for reliability, value, and quality control in my book (along with two other favorites, Source Naturals and NOW).
I had been taking a silicon supplement in tablet form for about 4 weeks before starting this liquid form 3 weeks ago. Silicon is said to be a constituent of collagen formation, helping with skin repair, nail health, hair health, and joint health. I can say without a doubt that silicon supplementation has definitely made my nails whiter and has removed some slight soreness I had in my left knee from bad golfing habits. My hair is also growing so fast it has to be cut more than twice a month (I'm a female, so this is news). And, to my view, the skin on my face looks smoother (kind of a "filling in" effect where crows feet are less pronounced and the skin just seems healthier and more elastic).
I'm convinced in my own case that silicon works. Now you have to choose its form: tablets, capsules, or liquid?
Without a doubt, Jarrow's JarroSil wins that fight, hands down. This liquid form is much, much easier to take, since you simply shake the bottle & dispense 10 drops into water or juice, once a day. I take mine in about an ounce of plain water and it simply tastes like a tiny drop of lemon juice has been added to the water--it's barely perceptible. In juice, you'd never notice a thing. Compared to the horse-pill sized silicon tablets I was taking, this is an absolute DREAM. It's easy to take on its own, or added to your morning smoothie.
To sum it up: I like it, it seems to be working (I've also noticed in the last week that my hands, which do a LOT of typing, are feeling more nimble), and I'll definitely be buying more Jarrosil when this bottle runs out. Amazon's Subscribe & Save price is great for this supplement.

P.S. Please remember that supplements are different than pharmaceuticals; they take time to work, so don't expect to see your nails grow 1/2 inch longer in a week. Body chemistry is highly variable. Be patient and be sure to take your dose every day in order to reap its benefits. I feel sure you'll see some results by the time you've finished your first bottle, if it's going to benefit you as it has me. Good luck!
UPDATE 1/16/12: Just a quick FYI: I've found that the best dose for me (equivalent to the effects of the large tablets I was taking) is 15 drops (not the label's recommended "serving size" of 10 drops). Hair is noticeably shinier and still growing like mad : )

My friend knows the developer of Jarrow Bone-Up and was instructed by him to use Jarrosil (10 drops a day) in conjunction with three Bone-Up capsules twice a day. My friend reports that his dentist says he is the first patient the dentist has seen that increased bone density in his jaw.
Be sure to use the Jarrrosil along with the Bone-Up. The Jarrosil helps the Bone-Up work.

For the last couple of years I have been ingesting another brand of this supplement. The other product costs significantly more for the same 30 ml bottle but it also contains 6 mg of the main ingredient - choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid - while the JarroSil contains 4 mg. That said, even reducing the price by a third to account for the reduced strength still makes the JarroSil product less expensive.
JarroSil contains a small amount of zinc - 1 mg - and Boron - .5 mg - which are not ingredients in the other brand I've been using. I prefer to avoid additional ingredients in supplements if for no other reason than I am then forced to keep track of, in this case, how much zinc has been added to other supplements I take to ensure I don't take too much. So, I would have preferred no zinc be added, but it is a small amount and probably won't be a problem. Please note that zinc can interfere with the absorption of some medications, antibiotics, arthritis drugs, etc., so check for interactions before taking the product. Sometimes the solution is as simple as avoiding taking the products within a couple of hours of each other, but it is worth researching the issue for each individual's circumstances.
The recommended daily dose is ten drops divided into two five drop servings taken twice a day preferably added to about four ounces of water or juice. Liquid is better than other delivery methods and I've found that tomato juice is the only thing with a strong enough taste to partially mask the indescribably bad flavor of my usual brand. But, this is where the JarroSil provides a significant improvement. Five drops in four ounces of plain water would have been nearly undrinkable with my old brand, but I bravely tested it with this product and there was no taste, at all. I feel confident that even if I decreased the number of drops of my other brand to match the strength of this one it would still taste dreadful. So, this is a notable plus.
The reason I have been taking the orthosilicic acid is to improve the quality of my hair, skin and nails which with time seemed to be losing elasticity - brittle nails, dry hair and skin. The supplement was recommended by a friend who swore by it and after a few months I did see an improvement - nothing miraculous but my nails no longer peel and split and my hair looks better.
I am interested to see if switching brands will change anything, and I will update the review if there is anything significant to note.

I have been using this product for 30 days and I have to say that the biggest change I have noticed is in the growth of my hair, and that is not listed as one of the expected results. I am trying to grow my hair out so I was pretty thrilled by this. I have noticed other changes too...my hair is softer and less frizzy. In my job I am on my feet a lot bending down and moving things and I have noticed I don't feel as "old" as before in my joints. These changes are subtle...not life altering but I welcome any improvement.
Dosage: You put 10 drops in water, swirl it and drink it down. I usually do this in the morning when I am taking my medication. It doesn't taste like much but there is a little bit of a taste..and it is just like what you think silicon would taste like, kind of plastic-y but not unpleasant. I wish the dosage was in more of an eyedropper rather than a bottle you squeeze...it is easy enough but I think an eyedropper would be quicker. It is simple and easy to remember to take so no real change in my morning regiment to accommodate it.
I like this product and will continue to use it, it is easy and inexpensive. I had no idea that my body needed silicon, but now I really like the results!

Easy to take-- results starting to be noticed Jan 10, 2012

First let me suggest that if you drink your liquids from a paper cup, drink this mixture as soon as you add it -- as paper cups are notorious for absorbing their contents, especially on the bottom where the majority of seams are -- and since these drops are (to me) a little heavier than water they tend to gather at the bottom of the cup if it sits around for a while.
Adding a slightly bitter (but not unpleasant) taste to water, these drops would probably go un-noticed in juice -- however I prefer taking them in water since I would think that all the benefit would be accesible without adding any other factors (such as the sugar or fruit in juice).
Do I notice anything? Only that my fingernails - usually ridge-y and brittle, appear to be growing thicker, harder and healthier looking. And my hands, which are touched by a bit of arthritis, are more flexible, Only time will tell, but I DO trust the Jarrow brand, as I have been using their formulas for a long time with good results.
UPDATE - January 24, 2012-- the cracks and cuts on my fingertips (very painful, nothing helps -- lotions, bandaids) that always set in during the winter -- are healing-- I can't begin to tell you how wonderful that is!! I can only guess that my daily intake of Jarrosil has helped bring this about.
UPDATE March 29 -- This is running out - I MUST get more-- it is exceptionally helpful for my fingers and my hair -- my nails too.
