After 6 years of yoga, I finally decided to invest in a quality mat and bought this one. It is worth every penny.
I have bony knees and always had to put a folded towel under them during kneeling moves, but not with this mat. I can do standing poses on it, so it is not too thick, either. When I lay down for shavasana, it doesn't feel like I'm laying on the hard floor. (It did not smell badly at all.)
Every time I pull out the mat, I am happy. If you're doing yoga regularly, it's worthwhile to make the investment in your mat. Good luck!

This mat is perfect if you are tired of slipping and not gripping while doing yoga. It is very sticky and comfortable. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that it is almost TOO sticky as in it picks up every crumb, dirt, dust and cat hair it can find and it can be difficult to get off.
Despite that one aspect, it's still the most comfortable mat I've ever used, totally improved my practice and I simply adore it. AND it is 3 inches wider than most mats so it makes things so much more easier and flowy.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

The Jade mats are the best. I have tried everything and find that the jade mats are the only ones that I don't slip in down dog. The smell was not bad at all. After I am finished I just spray it with a little alcohol (vodka and water) to clean it and let it air dry.

Ok, I have been practicing hatha yoga for about two years and this last year practicing hot yoga exclusively. So, got a little bonus check and thought I would finally expand my horizons and upgrade my mat and yoga towel from my $7 mat and beach towel. This mat obviously is of high quality but in class the other night I realized that despite the benefits of a larger mat, this one is non-absorbent and a monster to roll up and carry around. Hence my title - GOT SHERPA. I finally mounted some clips in the garage and can hang my mat(s) to allow for a drip and dry as I try to practice daily. If I were going to a non-hot yoga class which did not require a towel, I would probably bring this mat to protect my knees since it is fairly robust. But, having a soaked yoga towel and this mat it almost takes everything I have to roll it up and leave the studio.

I really wanted to like this mat because I read mostly good things about it. Using it for 5 minutes, it is not slippery at all. But once I start sweating even a little, I could not believe how slippery it got. I used a yogitoes towel under my hands, which was fine, but then my feet started slipping. I couldn't do warrior 2 and triangle pose comfortably like I used to. My back foot would slip a little. I had to go back to my old GAIAM mat, which is also slippery but not to this extent.
I also didn't like the "open-cell" format when I realized that it's open to germs and bacteria. Like I said I wanted to like this mat but unfortunately I wasted my money. Might work for some people but definitely did not work for me.
