By Ellen D. Davidson I think this product is really helping my plantars fascitis. I can feel the tingling and relaxing of muscles. Love it!@
awkward, but it works May 06, 2012
By Jon Norris I got this device to test the properties of Near Infrared healing. Most devices of any quality in this field are far more expensive, and given that LEDs are not very expensive, I wonder why most devices are so expensive. This device is priced more reasonably, in my opinion.
There has been much in the press about the new discoveries in the healing power of Near IR (infrared), and this is a technology which lends itself to individual use very well.
It is basically a circuit board with IR LEDs in a 6 by 6 square grid pattern, covered by thick, stiff foam padding. It is approximately 4 inches square, and almost 3/4 inch thick. It does not bend or conform, but stays flat, which makes it a bit awkward to use on the human body.
It comes with a "wall wart" style power supply which connects with a standard power plug in the power line itself. There is also a thick block in the power line which gets very hot during use (this is covered in the directions), which I assume is a current limiting resistor. The unit itself can become quite warm to the touch in use, and the LEDs can become very warm as well. This can be alarming if you don't read the directions which alert you to this fact. IR is heat, after all.
I have used it quite a bit now, and have been impressed by how well it works. No miracle healing has happened, but it does do a good job of applying Near IR heating to limited areas. I have noticed increased circulation, pain reduction, and a nice warming in treated areas. I haven't done any lab tests on it, but from a purely symptomatic view, it is helpful in many situations.
I haven't tested it on wound healing, but am looking forward to seeing if it can help there as well.
It is a bit clumsy to use, and finding some way of securing it in place (I use vet wrap), makes it much easier. There are detailed instructions which should be followed, as there can be problems if it is not used properly. (Mostly due to overheating.)
I am quite pleased overall, and I think it is a great value. It is definitely more reasonably priced for what you are getting - 36 LEDs and a power supply.
I would definitely recommend this if you want to explore Near IR healing but not spend a huge amount of money to see if it will work for you.
