Lasagna, really? Nov 08, 2011

This is NOT Lasagna. Give this a pass. These are the noodles from the Chicken and noodles dish in way too sweet and salty tomato sauce.
Hormel used to make a real Lasagna years ago with Ricotta Cheese and layers of lasagna noodles. It was MUCH better than this.
Get the Manicotti dish, it's MUCH better!

Lasagna with lots of nasty sauce Jul 12, 2009

Hormel Compleats Lasagna with Meat Sauce doesn't look much like the package picture. What's inside is a sea of sugary, citric-acidy sauce. The sauce conceals a very few small pieces of some sort of dried meat that tastes OK and a smaller than wanted portion of doughy, dry pasta. The pasta is acceptable, meat edible, and sauce is awful. I'm unhappy at the thought of throwing away all of these uneaten lasagna meals, but I'd feel bad giving them away to anyone else.
I advise you to avoid this product.
One of the better Hormel meals May 18, 2012
By Jennifer Ackerman My husband will not make more of an effort to feed himself than to heat something up and if I'm not around to provide for him or leave him something already made in the fridge, his immediate go-to is canned soups and canned pastas. As such, I thought these Hormel meals would be a brilliant thing to have around the house. Not only are they right up his alley with being extremely easy to prepare but there is a very wide variety, they come in their own bowl, and you don't need to refrigerate them. I had visions of him keeping a stash at work or in his car and never having to buy lunch if he forgot it at home. Or even him grabbing one for a late night snack and being pleased that he had so many different kinds to choose from.
Well, he quickly killed that after trying about four of them. He now will only eat them as a last resort. He's really not all that fond of them. Which leaves me to eat them seeing as how we have so many in the house.
The lasagna with meat sauce is one of the better ones of the Hormel line but it does have its faults. The sauce is way too sweet like all of Hormel's pasta dishes and has an acidic undertone that's a bit too much. The noodles, though, are very thick and makes the entire dish with a nice compliment of small pieces of meat to add texture. I personally can't handle the sweetness of the sauce though and have to add hot sauce or Sriracha chili sauce in order to enjoy it. But even still, this is definitely one of the better meals available. I just wish there was way less sodium! This has even more than the typical super salty meat dishes! Crazy!
For what this is -- a non-perishable prepared food that is fairly cheap -- it's pretty good. It will fill you up quickly at very low effort and cost, but if you are going to compare it to something you can make yourself, well, there really isn't any comparison.
All I know is that if the end of the world were to come, we have so many of these that we would be set for some while. Well, as long as the end of the world didn't mean the end of working microwaves, that is :)
Not really lasagna, but good! Apr 01, 2012
By James F. Jacks It is more or less spiral noodles in marinara sauce. This is one of my favorite Hormel meals. I carry to work a couple of times a week.

AWFUL!! Jun 10, 2009
By A. Bennett I found this Hormel Compleats Lasagna with Meat Sauce to taste just AWFUL!! It's basically just large, thick noodles with an awful tasting sauce poured over it. I've never tasted lasagna that had this discusting flavor before. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT buy this for flavor but as a filler, it'll work..... just don't expect to actually like eating it. I can not recommend this product to anyone. I must admit that I gave all my remaining ones to the local food bank....someone there might like it!
