Surprisingly good!! Nov 20, 2005
By ellafan Having been dx'd with Diabetes a few months ago,I was on the lookout for something that could satisfy my sweet tooth.I purchased a box of these bars from Glucerna, hoping for a nice surprise. I got it.They taste good. They do not taste like you are gnawing on a block of minerals.Seriously. They are really good.
If you decide to try these, please be SURE to ask your doctor if it is acceptable for you to use these bars. Mine did,and I have used them ever since.I no longer have the cravings for sweets that I did before.

No more deprivation! Jan 23, 2007

If you're too sweet(i.e. diabetic) like me, then give this meal bar a try. You don't have to feel deprived anymore. All the flavors are great, especially Oatmeal Raisin(my second favorite) but I'm reviewing Chocolate Chunk because it's the one I like most.
Unlike many other sugar free foods this does not have a bland, chalky or chemical taste. These bars taste good, like something you would eat even if you didn't have diabetes. You get a decent chocolatey flavor and a pleasant texture. Also, you can really substitute one of these for a meal. I eat one for breakfast every day(I hate to get up early enough to eat breakfast)
Like the other reviewer wrote, check with your doctor or diabetes educator before you try one, but they shouldn't have a problem with this product.
So treat yourself to a Glucerna Chocolate Chunk bar. It's tough being diabetic and you deserve a treat!

I can't believe these are not candy bars! Jul 26, 2010
By Lurfy's Ma Seriously. It's like eating a real candy bar. It is so rich and satisfying that I can sometimes get away with just half a bar as a snack. I say sometimes, because having half a bar this tasty just sitting there is usually too much temptation. The mini bars are better for that.
Here's a little "trick" that will make each bar last longer and leave you feeling fuller. Drink at least 8 oz of water, hot water works better, and then have your bar or half a bar. Repeat in 1-2 hours.
There is no chalky or artificial taste and no aftertaste - none. These are even better than the regular power bars that are not low sugar or artificially sweetened.
I don't know how they are for moderating blood sugar levels as they claim, but I felt more satisfied and less hungry for longer than with other bars, including real candy bars.
Here's the nutritional breakdown of the ones I've tried so far. Sod-sodium, Pot=potassium
. . Oz . Cal/Fat . . Sod . . . Pot . . . . Flavor . 0.70 . 060/25 . 060mg . 050mg . Chocolate peanut mini bar . 2.04 . 210/50 . 085mg . 210mg . Chocolate chunk bar . 1/41 . 150/35 . 150mg . 080mg . Chocolate caramel snack bar
My preferences are in order:
Chocolate Chunk: A slightly crunchy texture that's a little like a Rice Crispies treat. I think the crunchiness comes from something they call "soy protein nuggets. This is my favorite. Just like a really good candy bar.
Chocolate Peanut: Very nice combination of chocolate and peanut, chewy and crunchy. This is a close second.
Chocolate Caramel: A crunchy texture that is much more like a Rice Crispies treat. This one has "crisp soy nuggets". It has a strong caramel flavor, which is not my favorite, but I bet caramel lovers will like it.
Variety Pack: Only two flavors: Chocolate Peanut and Chocolate Caramel. Not much variety and all chocolate. It would have been nice to have gotten a box of blueberry, oatmeal raisin, and/or cinnamon bun

Great for non-diabetics as well Sep 30, 2009
By feminist military spouse Let's face it. You want to go on a diet. You love sweets and you hate that most meal replacement bars taste like the pressed cardboard they're composed of. Today is your lucky day. I bought a pack of these to get some protein (which satisfies cravings) and satisfy my sweet tooth on the recommendation of a friend. They are rich and delicious. I am not going to lie. The texture is a bit weird at first, but the taste over rides this minor issue, making these well worth the money. At 210 calories (about the same as a chocolate bar) you can feel satisfied and stay on track too. Why cheat on your diet when you can have delicious chocolate and lose weight too?

Almost Too Good May 13, 2009
By M. A. Larcomb I am in agreement with the delicious theme. It is my favorite flavor of all the Glucerna bars and I cannot for the life of me figure out why my local grocery doesn't keep it on the shelves. Tough for me to stop at one myself. As of this post, though, the price can't be beat [undercutting American Diabetes Association wholesale connection ... I checked.]
