Absolutely excellent. Mar 02, 2007
By SLP The key word here is, "stabilizer." I say that because it is not a splint, allows supported thumb movement, and enables the thumb to work as it is designed. Having recently come down with a painful and annoying "trigger thumb," I'd tried a splint only to find that the thumb was stiff and even more painful when I removed it.
This device does not use a rigid splint. Instead, it consists of extremely high quality, very comfortable, and well-assembled materials that include two thin metal bands. The bands support the thumb on the sides, allowing almost complete, but supported, flexibility. Either or both bands can be removed, varying the degree of support. With the bands removed, the devices becomes a glove that retains body heat and helps considerably to relieve pain and stiffness in cold weather.
I don't wear this thing continuously, but only when I need to do something that requires a thumb and don't feel like putting up with the trigger effect and its consequent jolt of pain. Afterward, my thumb is not stiff and actually feels better. My doctor thinks the thumb should be exercised, not bound in a splint. Unfortunately, this thumb is not attached to him, but I believe him, and I think this is a reasonable compromise, particularly since it's improving. He assures me I will be cured. Still, I will keep these thumb supporters handy.

Wear them every day Jan 09, 2007
By P. Dean I have a chronic condition that is helped by wearing the brace every day, especially when I'm with my young children (picking them up is an aggravation to the problem) I'm now on my 3rd and 4th braces over several years. They work pretty well and are reasonably comfortable.
They do wear out. The foam and fabric delaminate and the velcro gets less sticky. But that is to be expected over time and with a lot of use.

Consider more than wrist Feb 08, 2008

I have used several types of gloves for my arthritis and thought this would be good. I use a medium quilters glove, because of wrist size, and bought the same size in this. What I never thought of was the size of my thumb. These stabilizers have a really tight thumb opening and I had to cut the sewing and make them wider to fit - otherwise, my thumb went numb. There is more to these than just wrist measurements when determining size.

This is what you want? Oct 11, 2007
By K. Baites This product is absolutely a miracle for me. If you have thumb joint problems; this product will stabilze the joint and at the same give you the mobility you need to still use the thumb.
