The first vest I received smelled like gasoline and was terrible. I emailed Altus and they sent me a new one in a heart beat. The new one is perfect, it doesn't smell. The design is perfect and doesn't affect you in odd ways because it fits properly. it is comfortable when walking, running, aerobics,(step, kick), it fits well with everything. Love it, and thank you Altus for sending me a nonsmelling vest!!! I am not sure how the amazon seller could not have possibly smelled this thing, but at least Altus cares about product safety, product reliability, and customer satisfaction.

WOW! WHAT A NICE FITTING VEST BUT THE DAMN THING SMELLS LIKE PURE GASOLINE! I HAD TO SIT THE DAMN THING OUTSIDE FOR THREE DAYS JUST TO AIR IT OUT COMPLETELY! I EVEN SPRAYED IT WITH LYSOL! I'M NOT SURE WHAT THE MATERIALS ARE MADE OF OR WHETHER IT WAS SITTING AT THE SHIPPER'S LOCATION IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO OTHER ITEMS THAT WERE PRODUCING FUMES OR WAS IT SOAKED IN GAS BUT IT WILL IMMEDIATELY TAKE YOUR BREATHE AWAY! SINCE I AM DEPLOYED I DECIDED TO JUST AIR IT OUT AND DEAL WITH IT THAN TRYING TO GO THROUGH THE WHOLE RETURNING PROCESS. It wears well! I can actually run three miles or do a high impact aerobic class with it on comfortably! It fits well under my physical fitness uniforms so there is no problem there either. I recommend a vest without the gas fumes for any type of exercise (except maybe floor routines ; yoga & ab workouts. Thanks!

Perfect for Walking and Low Impact Jul 02, 2009

This vest has a nice fit and very little bulk (unlike other weighted vests on the market). I love it for walks and low impact aerobics, as well as push ups and weight lifting for added challenge especially when doing compound exercises. I don't like it for jumping or running, because it bounces and lifts up slightly, and when bending over it wants to slide forward towards your head. It comes with an instructional DVD and a cell phone holder that attaches to the vest with Velcro. The one I received (brand-new) had one seam loose which I had to sew up. I still give it 5 stars because I really like the soft feel and comfortable fit of this vest.

This vest is well made and did not smell at all, as was the case with many of the other 10-pound vests that have been reviewed. It has many nice features, such as reflective stripes and a pocket that would hold a cell phone. However, this vest is best suited for a small woman or a very small man. The chest expansion is adjustable, but not the shoulder dimension, and I found it tight through the shoulders. Also, the vest is short, even for someone only 5' 7'' and I found that the weight of it was carried almost entirely by my shoulders. This made the weight distribution poor for me and impaired my balance.
I am giving it four-stars because the construction was good and it may be fine for someone of a shorter stature, but I think that the product information should state that this vest is primarily for a shorter stature individual.

Mine REEEEEKS - can't even try it yet Oct 19, 2009

I got my vest last week and haven't even been able to use it because it smells so strongly of gasoline or fumes or some sort of chemical. Several hosings down with febreeze has not helped. Went to her website to see if there's anything about cleaning - nothing. Extremely peeved!
