I have Musiple Sclerosis and have weak leg muscles. This machine has built up my muscles and it's very relaxing while using it.

4Try it - it might just work for you  Jan 22, 2011
By Marge M
I bought this assisted pedaler on eBay for about half the regular asking price. I was all set to order it through Amazon but at a $75.00 savings...well, no big decision. I mention this so that you will realize my initial mindset is more positive. It came assembled, all I had to do was release the pedals from the hand grip position, find the button, squeeze it and adjust the pedal. Don't forget to use the included anti-slip carpet mat - not that it keeps it from slipping but it helps.

Yes, the cord for the on/off and speed assisted control is short and tight. My husband has PD and is the reason for the purchase. He mentioned this morning that the controller coiled cord was too short, so I stretched the cord - firmly holding one end and slowly pulling my other hand down the coil. That provided enough length for him to rest the control across one leg without the cycling action pitching it to the floor.

I don't look forward to having to lift this unit to his desktop for arm use so I am considering finding a different and smaller pedaler to keep on the desk. That will encourage daily use. I want exercise equipment to be within easy reach for my husband. He needs to use this unit 2X a day.

While I can get the speed up to 90 rpm unassisted, he can't. 90 rpm is the PD Forced Exercise goal but because he has one weak PD side, I think the best we can hope for with this equipment is assist up to 60 rpm which is its max assist.

For those who don't have the big buck$ to buy a Theracycle or Reck MotoMed to get the optimum forced exercise, this is a terrific compromise. He can already feel the benefit of the endorphin rush - something that did not happen much at the Exercise Therapy Center. At home he just relaxes, watches TV and pedals away for at least 20 minutes a session. The therapy center didn't have the right equipment either so the speed he gets here is similar to some much more expen$ive equipment there. While home lacks the social interaction, the convenience is significant and so is the gas savings.

If you can brace the pedaler properly on the floor, you may be able to adjust your chair/seat in different ways so that you can get an eliptical, recumbent (almost) and regular cycling positions.

For people with PD, I suggest placing your hands palm down on your thighs - fingers spread as far apart as possible for the added benefit for your arms.

The timer is not well backlit so unless being used on the desk for arm strength and flexibility, is impossible to read when it is on the floor. I know that my husband wants that feedback but that is a small sacrifice.

In a few weeks we'll have a better idea of whether or not it really deserves 5**** instead of 4.

Addendum: I still rate this a 4 because it does slip but that may be because of the surface it sits on. Since it is willingly used every day I would actually rate it at 4.5. I am delighted with this purchase.

Addendum 2: The copy on this item seems to have changed. I sent out several query emails before purchasing this assisted pedaler and nowhere did I see 100rpm as the top speed. In actuality, the top motor assisted speed is between 60 and 64rpm which my husband has a hard time reaching even with the assist because of arthritic knees. Again, I can get it to a higher 90rpm unassisted. Perhaps I should test for 100rpm but I can't do it now. I'll let you know later.
This equipment is not a substitute for the real Forced Exercise equipment which sell for thou$andS from 2 different manufacturers, on in the US and one in Europe.

Nonetheless we are delighted to have it and my husband still uses it almost every day.

My boyfriend bought this to help him work out. he has MS and has very poor balance. this is a great item for people with limited mobility. I love to use it as well! you just plug it in and find a good speed for you and your off! the LCD screen is kind of tiny and hard to read, but it does the job.

One of the better Electronic Pedalers out there. But for me , I need a better cardio , so they need to create a unit that will allow a faster cycle time. Cardio is very important, and as you get older, there are some people who are limited in their physical activities, and need to augment them , in this case electronically. A faster upper limit is needed.
