The best-performing vegan mascara out there Mar 14, 2008
By M. Mills

I have long eyelashes that are medium brown at the base and blond at the tips, and Ecco Bella's black mascara really adds body to them while still looking very natural. It does an equal job of volumizing and lengthening. I use this mascara every day and have had no problems with running or irritation of any kind.
Like most mascaras, I do find that this product has some slight clumpage issues, but that's easily remedied by squeezing the loaded wand into a folded tissue and THEN applying it to the lashes. (This gets all the excess goop off the wand and allows for more precise application.) VoilĂ ! No clumping. It does take about 20-30 seconds to dry, which may be too long for some people; but I actually like this window of time because I can go in with a clean wand/eyelash brush and make minute corrections before the mascara dries.
My skin is oily, so at the end of the day there's sometimes a teeny bit of smudge beneath my eye if I've worn mascara on my lower lashes. However, I have yet to find a non-waterproof mascara that doesn't do this. Nothing that a quick finger-swipe won't fix.
The side of the mascara tube has a built-in mirror that can be helpful for application if you're out and about, although I find it too small to be practical when I'm applying makeup in front of the bathroom mirror.
For me, the most attractive feature of this product is that it has the FEWEST ingredients of any mascara I've ever seen: Purified water, carnauba wax, palmitric acid (from palm oil), clay, methylparaben, propylparaben, iron oxide.
Recommended for those who demand top-quality, cruelty-free products.

Natural effect Dec 14, 2008

This mascara doesn't clump and has a lashtint-like effect. The mirror on the tube is convenient, and it does lengthen and thicken a bit. Overall a nice vegan mascara. I purchase this regularly. Unfortunately, after a full workday it flakes a little and stings in my eyes (I wear contacts) so I recommend removing it after 8 hours or so and applying fresh for the night.

Great lashes and good for those with contacts Apr 24, 2008
By C. H. Walker I get great coverage that doesn't flake or smear after a few hours. The coverage is even, so I don't have a lot of clumping like I get with some enhancement products. I don't worry about what is in this product, because it doesn't have harmful preservatives/chemicals around my eyes. My mother has used this too for three months now and had no problem with her contacts.
I do wish they had other colors, because I really prefer using a dark purple mascara to highlight the blue in my eyes. I'm sorry the previous reviewer had trouble getting this item, but this is sold by Amazon.com, so the shipping restrictions are theirs. Eco Bella doesn't refuse to mail overseas and should be criticized for Amazon's policy.

Finally, a ghost in the daylight.... Mar 14, 2011

I have small almond eyes and I've never looked good in bold mascara or heavy liners. I used to use a lash tint that I loved but it was discontinued so I tried mascara after mascara in hopes of stumbling across one that wouldn't shout Liza Minnelli in a Derby bowler hat wielding a cigarette. I don't want Definicils defintion. I don't want Dior and their show. I want inquiring minds. I want fresh out of the ocean lashes -- wet black as smooth as kittens claws.
And here it is: Ecco Bella. It's not viscous or dazzling or decadent. It's subtle. It's effortless. It's the most natural looking mascara I've found. A ghost in the daylight.

Still contains yucky chemicals Sep 16, 2011
By C. Roberts The search for a good natural mascara continues. This does have few ingredients, but includes propylparaben, which received a high (bad) rating of 5 on the environmental working group: [...], and methylparaben, which gets the same bad score: [...].
