5Simply the best-tasting, healthiest, and most DIGESTIBLE...  Jan 29, 2009
By Eduardo Nietzsche
...energy bar on the market! I am impressed with all of ClifBar's products, especially this one, the Builder's Bar, and their Energy Gels.

The Energy Bars don't have as much protein as the Builder's Bar, and the protein is derived from soy rather than whey---and some people believe whey to be the much better quality protein. Personally I haven't seen any convincing data on that. Me, I use these bars more as a carb replacement right after a hard workout or run, since I get the replacement protein from drinking about 12oz of chocolate whole milk.

Where these CB Energy bars really stand out though, is when used as a pre-run or pre-workout meal. I have eaten one of these and then ran about an hour later, with no ill effects like gassiness or cramping---which goes to show how easily and quickly digestible this bar is, compared to other energy bars on the market (Powerbars are some of the worst, in my experience) which take a lot longer to get through your system because they are full of highly processed ingredients.

* ADDED 3/01/09: Wow, these bars are actually good to eat DURING a run, too...at around 250 calories, you are getting roughly the caloric equivalent of 2.5 gels plus they contain a little protein, which most gels DON'T have at all. I brought one of these along for a 17 mile, 2.5 hour run yesterday, ate 1/3 of it every 5 miles, had plenty of energy and zero stomach issues. Really goes to show just how easily digestible they are, and used like this, they are a very economical alternative to gels, plus less packaging goes into the local landfill!

5By Far the best of the Clif [or any other] bar our there in this class...  Aug 09, 2009
By W. Wilkerson "Dog Boy"
I've been through a trial tasting of most all the energy bars out there and for my needs [fueling the hour+ swim or medication needs / meal replacement] these are not only the best bet for Protein/Carb/Fat balance but also the best tasting... with a little soy milk, these are THE item !

That isn't to say that you can't find a more protein heavy or carb filled item out there on the shelves, BUT if you are looking for something without HFCS [high fructose corn syrup] - the secondary downfall of the PowerBar brand, the first being a tie between taste and texture failure - built around natural/organic ingredients and readily digestible - as noted by a previous reviewer, these are VERY easy to absorb and I have a bithcey stomach - then these [and Clif bars generally] are for you.

As a bonus round, these make an excellent meal replacement for just about any setting, whether you are in need of something fairly substantial to buffer out medication / don't wanna have to pay for over-priced, barely edible food in airports / just like the idea of having portable food with you in the EDC [every day carry] bag / have a picky eater child who needs to eat [this flavor can even be even be a treat !] for whatever reason or any other situation where "regular" food isn't an viable choice then these are an excellent option. I prefer these over all most any of the other Clif flavors, Lemon Poppyseed having been discontinued [I think] and have taken Clif bars with me when traveling all over the planet as a back up to local / regular / strange food... which I get around 2, just not always right away ;)~

Final note - the [...] price is only mediocre good [before shipping] and with all costs thrown in is rather more pricy than my local grocery store, just a note....

4long distance bicycling  Jun 18, 2011

I bring a few Clif Bars on my bike rides that last 2 hours or longer. I can digest about 1 bar per hour and that (plus a good breakfast) can keep me going all day. These bars cost $1 each at my local grocery store, so the Amazon subscription price is a decent deal.

There are a lot of different brands and flavors of energy bars on the market and not all work for everyone. You need to experiment to see what works for you. Some people can't stand certain flavors and others cause indigestion in some people.

5My favorite!  Jul 19, 2010
By Tiffany Whitten
I love these bars. I like to have chocolate flavor, but Power Bars melt into a gooey mess in the heat. I cycle and when I have a power bar in my belt bag, it doesn't melt. I can eat half of it and wrap it back up and come back to it after the ride without it creating a gross mess in my bag.

I can easily burn 1,200+ calories in a long ride, so it's really nice to be able to have something tasty to replace my lost carbs and sugar.

Some people don't like the taste of this bar, but they're my favorite.

4cliff bars  Sep 28, 2009

I use the chocolate browning cliff bar for breakfast. It is very satifying and keeps me from getting hungry all morning. They are also great for taking with you when you fly...just in case.
