Works fine, but no refills is HORRIBLE!! Jan 04, 2008

I agree with the other reviewer... this product works fine, i did get the smiley face, but MAN - who on gods green earth puts as much time and effort into designing a product like this ONLY TO NOT MAKE REFILLS???? What were they thinking? I called clearblue easy and get this - the service lady on the phone told me... wait for it... that they can't sell refills because the BATTERY WASN'T DESIGNED for multi-month use!! OMG! Heard of energizer??!
It's just gouging - they get you with the smiley face and ease of use - and then take you for the $40 ride every month!!! ARGH!

Not Great Oct 29, 2007

I never got the smiley face. Now, I wouldn't give this product such a negative review just for that reason, (I may have ovulated too early or too late for the 7 sticks provided). My problem is we can not buy refill test sticks for the digital unit. Rather we have to buy the entire unit all over again. This seems very wasteful (not to mention expensive). Either include 20 or 30 sticks, or provide refills! It was disappointing not to get the smiley face :(

A lifesaver despite expense and wastefulness Jan 28, 2008
By 33 year old lawyer This thing is fantastic because trying to read the double lines on most ovulation detector kits is a nightmare. I have tried this over many months, and always have gotten the smiley face (your LH surge). The trick is to make sure you start early enough in your cycle and do it every 12 hours. If you have a variable cycle of 24-29 days, you probably need to start on cycle day 10 and then do it every 12 hours after until your surge is finished. Yes, sometimes that means you buy more than one of these per cycle.
Complaints? Yes. Because the reader has a tiny battery in it, it has occurred to me that this will have to be disposed in a hazardous waste facility. You can't just toss in the trash. So I am saving mine in a drawer to take to the local one in my city at the end of the year. It is wasteful for the environment. And yes, as other reviewers have pointed out, you should be able to just buy refills. (I have used old readers, btw, and they work fine, so the company is lying if it says they only do one time use.)
BTW, anything less than $30 on this is very cheap. I am typically seeing them run from 32-40 at most drugstores and grocery stores, with typical pricing around $35-38.

Dear Clear Blue Easy... Nov 18, 2009

PLEASE make refills! I know I'm just part of a larger group saying this, but will someone in your company read this and figure out that we don't want to throw away a digital reader? Sell one that takes a battery, we don't care... all of these people are asking the same of you. I can just picture the landfills filled with these digital readers, only to be dealt with by the generations of children borne with your help-- ironic, isn't it? Now get on it. And thank you.
