THE BEST LAUNDRY SOAP I'VE EVER USED Dec 17, 2008
By Andrea Shiell Sometimes a complete accident will lead you to a mainstay product you just can't live without. I found out about this stuff about a year ago on a vegan website where they were discussing cruelty-free laundry detergent, and one person recommended this. I do too. You truly don't need to use more than 1 TBS per load, and this should mean a lot coming from a person who used to use twice as much detergent as she needed to. My clothes don't come out smelling flowery (if you want flowers, go outside and pick them), just clean, and this stuff is also good for heavy duty cleaning, too. It's now the only laundry soap I use, and I recommend it to everyone.

Gets the job done! Aug 04, 2008
By Peter A. Henderson My wife bought this for the cloth diapers we use for my daughter. It was recommended to her by a friend. We now use it for all of our laundry. It cleans well, smells good and for the amount you use per load (1 Tsp.) it makes it worth it cost wise. I've also used the all purpose cleaner with similar results. Excellent!

Not for me Jul 14, 2010
By Monkey Town

I bought Charlie's based on the rave reviews I read here and I'm trying to be more environmentally aware of the products I'm using. I didn't have the great outcomes that others have experienced. I'm washing clothes for my family which includes messy children. I did an initial load to clean up the residue in my front loader. When I used Charlie's, my clothes were always coming out of the wash with stains. They also held onto odors. I can't tell you how many times I had to rewash clothes because of stains or odors. This never happened with my old commercial detergent. I decided to start using two scoops instead of one scoop of Charlie's and this made a marginal improvement. I do not have hard water. I love the fact that Charlie's is unscented and I love the fact that it's "greener" than other detergents, but I'm not willing to give up the superior performance of my old detergent.

Does what no other laundry soap has ever been able to do for me Dec 13, 2009
By C. Henderson I work out 6 days a week and as my fellow runners and gym-goers know, the specialized material used in workout clothes will hold that sweaty BO stench better than anything else.
I've tried everything on the market and the only thing that was working was soaking my workout clothes in oxi-clean for 24 hours and then washing them (sometimes twice). Which was ridiculous.
My friend told me about this soap and let me take a little bit home to give it a try and ONE wash (no pre-soak) with 1 tbsp of this soap and my workout clothes were the cleanest they've EVER been. Absolutely no trace of any smell to them. I still can't believe this.
I'm ordering a bag of it today and highly recommend it for anyone with challenging laundry! Or for that matter, any laundry at all! At 1 tbsp per load, it's the most economical laundry soap out there!

Not good for cloth diapers, fades regular laundry Dec 13, 2010
By Molpadia After much research and many recommendations I bought this detergent for my Indian prefold cloth diapers, which was a mistake. Despite claims to be clean-rinsing, it really isn't, even when using *much* less than the recommended amount. I was unable to get all of the suds out either by hand or machine, no matter how much or how vigorously I rinsed. As a result my daughter would end up with a rash every time. The company (whose customer service isn't the best) claims that the rashes many people are seeing in their babies are due to residual bacteria and that one must use a sterilization method when washing their CDs with this detergent - the thing is, I was already boiling my diapers after each wash. Even a vinegar rinse didn't get all the soap residue out. After switching to Rockin' Green the rashes went away entirely - RG truly is a clean-rinsing detergent and I would recommend any of their formulations over Charlie's.
I'm using up the rest of my Charlie's tub on our family laundry. It cleans great, but does fade blacks and most colors after just a couple of washes (so does Rockin' Green for that matter). Since it doesn't seem to rinse away entirely, some with sensitive skin might not want to use it, but my husband and I haven't had any problems.
Just okay - and for cloth diaper washing, you can do much better.
***EDIT/UPDATE***
Almost a month after posting my original review and having used Charlie's many times for family laundry, I felt the need to update. As I said previously neither my husband nor I have sensitive skin issues, but this soap has been giving me a rash on my back and ribcage around the bra area (especially after I workout/etc), and I now wash all of our "unmentionables" in Rockin' Green as Charlie's obviously can't be trusted with anything that's going to get moist and be in contact with skin. Very disappointing - this product is obviously something that should NEVER come in contact with a baby's sensitive and highly absorbent diaper area; I hate that they even market it as a good CD soap. I'm still going to use the rest of the tub as I'm terribly frugal, but I'm going to be careful where I use it. No washcloths, underwear, towels, etc. Downgrading to one star; wish I could give it none. For those of you who want a truly safe and clean-rinsing green detergent for your cloth diapers, I would highly recommend: Rockin' Green Cloth Diaper and Laundry Detergent (Classic Rock, Bare Naked Babies)
PS - You can get it cheaper elsewhere, but if you have to pay for shipping on one of those sites it probably comes out to about the same (average price is [...]/bag, or 90ish loads).
