Well... It didn't work for me. Dec 09, 2009
By I. Seo Before I start, I find it odd that most reviewers that have written a review for this product have never written a review before although they claim they have used so many other acne treatment products including those hand held lamps over many years... And they don't even have "Amazon Verified Purchase" mark on their reviews...
Anyway, I purchased this product in August, used it for about 2 months, and returned it because it didn't work for me. But the "didn't work" part is not what I'm trying to share with you.
First of all, the product comes with protective goggles because the light is VERY intense and your eyes need to be protected. It really hurt my eyes even though I added some more protection to the goggles as the light is so intense and you have to put your face (or body part) DIRECTLY under the lamp no more than 6 inches away (The product comes with the manual). After each session, my eyes were red and watery and it was pretty painful. I couldn't actually cover my forehead because it hurt my eyes way too much. But, it might just be me as my eyes are a little light sensitive.
Also, it says 30 minutes per day and about 5 times a week if your acne condition is severe. You might think this is not much, but the lamp is actually not that big and your face or body part should be directly under it. You will see what I mean when you get the product. The applied part feels tingled, and gets warm. This means, unless you have a ridiculously small face, you need to do this at least 4 times to cover your entire face (Unless it's just chicks, forehead, or chin). So thats... 30 minutes X 4 = 2 hours.
Although you can adjust the height of the lamp and the head of the lamp and all that to make it as comfortable as possible, it is not as easy as it sounds. You have to put your face directly under very intense light that you need protective goggles. And you cannot be more than 6 inches away. You cannot see anything, and you cannot do anything other than listening to music. It is VERY boring. One reviewer said it was relaxing just listening to music and feeling his skin getting better etc etc. Well... He mustve had a very mild acne problem over a very small area if he needed only 1 session... Or he's never used the product. 2 hours a day is a HUGE dedication. Also I didn't like the tingling sensation when I was using the lamp. And THE LAMP GETS SOOOO RIDICULOUSLY HOT. You actually smell something burning for a few weeks. I asked Trophyskin about it they said it's normal.
Anyway, all I want to say is that using this product can be VERY tedious and requires a huge commitment. I couldn't find out about any of these because they weren't in the reviews or the description. Everyone was just talking about how well it works and stuff. Using this product was very very tiring and barely bearable for me. On top of that, It didn't work for me, so I wasted many many hours on top of the shipping cost.
SO WHY AM I GIVING IT 3 STARS INSTEAD OF 1??? Good point. It's because Trophyskin was very responsive to me, and when I had a problem with the product (The joint was broken when I got it) they had fedex pick it up and sent a new one right away. Also, although it says 30 days on amazon, they still refunded after about 50 days for me.
My suggestion: Like I said over and over, using this product is VERY time consuming. Bear in mind that you need at least 4 sessions to cover the entire face and you cannot do ANYTHING other than listening to music. NO YOU CANT SLEEP IF IT ACCIDENTALLY FALLS ON YOUR FACE you gona get some serious burn and even if it doesn't you just can't. The light is way too intense. But if you can spend some time on this, definitely try it. IT didn't work for me, but it did for other people apparently. If it doesn't work for you, you can always return it.
I'm going to try "NatureBright Clarity Skin Rejuvenation Light" now. It says I need only 15 minutes a day and it looks like one session covers the entire face. I have Amazon prime but I still had to pay $20 for shipping which is ridiculous... hopefully this will work better for me.

Much needed in a house full of girls! May 12, 2009
By S. Mazhar Living in a house with three other girls (one of them being a former Ms. Kuwait), skin appearance falls under the category of Top 3 daily priorities because I have quite a bit to live up to. I had terrible acne growing up, terrible as in I was called "pineapple face" all throughout high school - my skin looked and felt like the surface of a pineapple and my hair was a completely different story. The aftermath of this acne, once tamed, was unattractively sized pores, blemishes, red spots, and of course, horribly toned skin. I looked way beyond my years chronilogically, and what person looking like that is going to have any friends?
I went to a dermatologist who prescribed me birth control (which made me gain weight), Finacea (which is said to cause growth of hair on frequently used spots), and Tazorac (which if you think peeling because of sunburn is bad, you haven't seen/felt anything). My skin was so dry, moisturizer couldnt help; I straight up had to use Vitamin E oil to do the job. Sure my lesions were gone, but the size of my pores was still the same. I couldn't find anything to give me that evenly toned, flawless face look I wanted, nor could the dermatologist suggest or recommend anything for me. I was never the type of girl to carry makeup with me and reapply during the day, but this problem gave me no choice. There is nothing more embarrassing than a caked face and hugging someone only to leave a cafe colored streak on their cashmere :-\
I came across Trophy Skin through word of mouth, read and researched it, and thought to myself that if I've already spent hundreds beyond hundreds of dollars at the doctor, I might as well give this a try. I would lay underneath this lamp, at night or during the day, 3 times a week, 20 minutes each sitting and only feel slight tingling where the heaviest acne on my face was. Not that it's a long time, but it gives you an excuse to take 20 minutes to yourself to relax after a long day; listen to music, talk on the phone, or just take a quick power nap as your skin is being beautified, hands free. Where can you go these days to benefit out of relaxing?
My skin looks 150 times much better, I've stopped going to any spas to get suffocating skin polishing procedures in attempt to get an even skin tone, I've stopped using any medical creams, and stopped taking pills. My pores have become *significantly* smaller, my skin feels so moisturized all the time, best of all: my skin tone is so even that I am entirely comfortable with stepping out of the house with just a dab of tinted moisturizer all over my face.
I went from spending hundreds of dollars on skin medications and makeup to almost nothing but tinted moisturizer.

Purchased for my 16 year old daughter - It is working wonders! Apr 28, 2009
By Donald A. Pelham My daughter is now 16, but has been suffering from fairly severe acne since she was 13. We started out with the usual stuff from the drugstore, but quickly realized that she needed something stronger. We went to the dermatologist and ever since, she has been on some sort of antibiotics. She has even been on Accutane for a while.
About a year and a half ago we decided to try blue light treatments at the local medspa here in town. She went twice a week for 6 weeks, and we saw results within just a few treatments. Only problem was we that it was a huge drain on our family schedule to take her there and back so many times. Also, we ended up spending almost $3000 by the end of her six week sessions.
That is when we discovered home blue light therapy and decided to try the Blue MD. This device has just been amazing on so many fronts. Her acne came back a few months after her last treatment at the medspa, so we really saw the Blue MD work before our eyes. It reduced her acne within 4 uses and pretty much eliminated it within 10 uses. She started out using it every day, and now uses it 2 or 3 times per week. Best of all, she has been able to back off of most of her medication, and we are hopeful that she will be able to eliminate all the meds in the near future. As any parent can attest to, kids are very image conscious these days. The change in her confidence and self esteem has just been wonderful to see. She doesn't hide her face with her hair anymore, and doesnt wear nearly as much makeup.

Does a nice job with body acne May 10, 2009
By Christopher Fruth Most people look for acne creams and washes containing acne fighting ingredients for their face area. My main concern is actually body acne, which I mainly get on my upper back. I have tried a lot of different products and some have worked well for a time, but after a while my body gets used to them and then the breakouts start again.
I've had this acne light for 4 months now and it does a really nice job. I really don't use it regularly, I just use it when I can feel that I have a breakout coming on. At that point, I will use it like twice a day for 3-4 days in a row and the breakout will either never appear or will come up but go away quickly. I like doing it this way since my body doesnt ever build up a resistance. Occasionally I break out on my chest as well, and it works just as well there too. Great stuff for someone who is looking for an effective treatment on the rest of the body.

Actually works! Jul 16, 2009
By medhchang I thought it was worth leaving feedback given the cost of the device would stop alot of people from trying it out. I've had acne issues since I was a teenager and in my mid-30s it gets old. I've used numerous treatments both prescription and OTC that any person with acne problems will be familar with:
Accutane- actually used it twice, good response both times however acne came back after a year. Chronically chapped lips from it. Retina A- made my acne worse. antiobiotics- temporary relief for a year. Proactive- lessens outbreak, gets expensive.
I decided to try this out after a good article put out by the AAD (American Academy of Dermatology). The site states the evidence for the efficacy of blue light treatment for acne is limited by the small size and number trials, however at least half of people respond to the treatment. The link to the article is at:
[..]
After ordering the light I received it in 3 business days. Like another poster noted the joint connecting my light to the plastic stand was loose and wobbly on arrival. I did the treatment for 20 minutes/daily before contacting the seller about the issue on the 3rd day. To their credit they shipped out a replacement light and arranged FedEx doorstep pickup for the defective unit at no additional cost to me.
For the three days I used the light I focused on my chin and jawline since that's where I tend to breakout. I noticed a definite improvement by the third day since I was having daily breakouts in that region. The number and size of the acne was noticeably smaller.
Whether this light will keep being effective over the long-haul I don't know as alot of treatments seem to lose effectiveness over time. If it does I will update my review. Still I am very pleased that the light actually works and while $200 may seem expensive, it's not alot if you ask many people with acne IF the treatment works and your not being dinged with recurrent costs with most medications.
