Well worth the expense Aug 26, 2008
By MaryAnne I have been doing serious water exercise (aerobic) for over 10 years, both shallow and deep water. I have used buoyancy cuffs in the past, without much effect. Deep water became less and less challenging, so I ended up just shallow water jogging, which satisfied the aerobic component of my workout, but my legs needed strengthening.
These really do the trick. I started with only 2 of the maximum 8 weights per leg, and could feel a big difference. My only complaint is that they are a little too large for my abnormally small (8") ankles. Wearing a pair of socks under them helps, and keeps them from chafing the skin. Fortunately, I am an older woman, past the point of caring if I look like a dork.

Terrific addition to water workout Aug 29, 2007
By Janie Austenlover

These ankle weights for water exercise are comfortable and definitely add to the workout. An excellent feature is that the amount of weight you can carry is modular: there are four slots on each side of each ankle-band, and you can utilize either no weights, or 1, 2,3, or 4 in each side. Manufacturer recommends starting with none, then adding 1 at a time... Good insructions, simple to use, and I liked the construction.

FABULOUS SWIMMING ADDITION Aug 17, 2009
By carol irvin

I've been a swimmer for decades. I added these ankle weights to everything I do in the water and now I can't imagine swimming without them. I was able to use them as packaged, full weights, right away (decades of swimming paying off). I use webbed gloves on my hands along with them. I've used these swimming the side stroke, breast stroke, crawl, underwater, swimming on my back, treading water doing leg lifts and even upright dancing in the shallow end to music. I use these in both deep and shallow water. I also do surface dives with them. I now feel strange swimming without them. I miss the resistance if I don't include these weights in my swim. If and when these give out, I will be buying a new set within hours. Two caveats: one, make sure these are snug on you as if they are loose they interfere with swimming; two, you must be a very strong swimmer to use these in deeper water. A weaker swimmer might panic with the added weight with disastrous results.

Good product, bad quality control May 26, 2009
By R. M. Duenas I decided to buy these ankle water weights based on the other good reviews. However, the weights I received are of a totally different size. It looks like one is for the wrists and another for the ankles. The material also varies slightly. At least the weight is the same on both (I checked it on a weight). However they feel weird on my ankles, one bigger than the other. The only reason for which I do not return them is because I am abroad; it would cost a lot to send them back (given the weight) and I would have to wait a long time to receive a replacement. For the price they charge ($35 plus almost $10 s/h), I cannot believe that the seller (Fogdog) would be as careless as to not check what is being packed in the boxes and sent to clients. Very disappointed. Other than this, I guess the weights work fine.

love them for the jacuzzi Sep 21, 2008

I love how comfy these are. VERY adjustable. I also have the wrists weights. I do NOT use these for swimming. I use them in the jacuzzi because they hold me in place over the jets. The jets in our backyard jacuzzi were strong and I would float all over the place. Having the ankle weights and wrists weights on allows me to stay slightly anchored so I can enjoy the massaging jets without floating around. They are actually fairly lightweight under the water so it's very easily move around in them, but it is enough weight to keep you in place better. They are also an incentive to go ahead and do some leg lifts and arm lifts for exercize while I'm enjoying the jacuzzi. Very happy with this purchase. I dont have a pool, but I think they would be fabulous for doing pool aerobics! If you have very tiny ankles, buy the wrist weights for your ankles. The weights are easy to make lighter by taking out some of the slide-in weights. I don't know why you would want to do that unless you were using them for aquatic-based physical therapy and needed very low weight. Either way, these are very versatile and comfortable.
