I suffered a car accident a few years back which crushed my pelvis and severed my urethra. Due to a blockage of scar tissue I have to regularly catheterize myself to keep the area free of obstruction so I could void.
I am so glad this product is available OTC, it is the ONLY product that actually eases the pain and discomfort down there. The only other method that even has helped me is high doses of ibuprofen [800MG min] or Naproxen [2x 240mg pills].
The only things keeping me from giving it a perfect score is the packaging is ridiculous. The pills are separated in pairs in these cheap plastic packs and when you go to rip a pair off, more often than not you end up tearing another package open on accident. Blister packs would have been a much better option IMHO.
Also the price is steep to other comparable products. Uricalm Effective Pain Medicine Plus Cranberry, 24 Tablets (Pack of 4), Uricalm also has cranberry added and a much cheaper price and better packaging IMHO.
Edit: Since writing this review the price of Uricalm has gone up, though I still prefer Uricalm because of the better packaging and the benefit of cranberry. Its up to you if it is worth it or not.

Wow! Imagine my surprise when I found out that this product, which was prescribed by my doctor for a UTI (urinary tract infection) was available over the counter! I had just paid my insurance co-pay of $10 to get 6 tablets, and happened to mention it to a girlfriend who is a nurse. She told me about AZO, and said in her opinion, it was the best of the over the counter variety.
So, I immediately looked this up on line, and sure enough...here it is! This version of the product, called standard, has 95 mg of this ingredient mentioned above. This manufacturer carries another version called "Standard Maximum" that is 97.5 mg, and I do not see it available yet on Amazon. The prescription version is for 100 mg tablets. Well, they all do the same thing, including turning your urine orange in most cases! This dosage was sufficient to give me fast relief. Please make sure to read the package warning section, as if you wear soft contact lenses, it can permanently discolor them. It is also best to take this product with food or a milk product. Overall, I would recommend this product highly.

These pills wiill make urination less painful for you while the antibiotics you got from the doc (you did go to the doc, didn't you?) cure the UTI. The only caution is that your urine will turn some bizarre color -- this is noted on the box.

Great for reducing bladder spasms Jan 20, 2011

I'm a 24yr old female with intermittent bladder issues. I have a small bladder, (had a sonogram and everything), I also have a minor issue with my bladder being able to tell my brain when I have to urinate sometimes though this is not often.
I typically have some AZO on hand for multiple uses.
Caffeine is very bad for continual use for myself so if I feel more urgency when I have to urinate I will take one dose of azo to calm my bladder for a little while.
When I go out for a night on the town and am enjoying adult beverages I will also take one dose before I go out, to ensure I am not waiting in line for a half-full tank.
I also take this when I have a UTI or kidney infection to reduce burning, urgency and empty tank visits.
There is absolutely no interactions with this product and any antibiotics, steroids, birth control, ect. This will discolor your urine to a burnt orange to bright yellow color. Does STAIN light colored clothing, toilet seats, linoleum floors.
This package is ideal for the price, I do not recommend the AZO maximum package. There is very few doses and the difference is not noticeable, the medicine is the same. The walgreens off-brand version also seems to be lacking in comparison to the AZO standard in terms of effective length.

I have used Azo Standard original (not the cranberry one) for several years. It is a wonderful product! If you get frequent urinary tract infections, etc. as I have, you will want to keep this product on hand. It works just like the stuff they give you at the doctor/emergency room that turns your urine orange. I used to get severe pain and very frequent urination from UTIs. Often this would happen during the night and I would have to wait and suffer many hours until I could get in to see a doctor. Now I take Azo Standard, drink plenty of water and get fast pain relieve. It helps you to be able to function normally until you can get checked at your doctor. I take this with me when I travel so I don't end up in the emergency room as I have in the past. For me it has been great, and I feel it is worth the price for the pain relieve. I highly recommend Azo Standard original.
